This evocative concert piece begins with a dreamy introduction in which we hear the first theme. The musical tension is gradually increased in the Grandioso with a new forceful theme being heard. These ever present two themes are further developed with the introduction of striking rhythmic patters bringing the work to a climax.Duration: 6:30

A Swedish March:This little march was written in 1975 and was commissioned for the Jnkping Summer School, Sweden, where Edward Gregson was guest composer and conductor. It incorporates the old Swedish folksong Britta at its heart, but otherwise is quite conventional in every aspect.Duration: 3.00Fanfare:This fanfare was originally written for brass ensemble, organ and percussion, under the title Fanfare for Europe, and was commissioned for a concert at the Royal Albert Hall, London, to celebrate Great Britain's entry into Europe. The composer then created this version for brass band which was published in 1976.Duration: 1.30

A Symphony of Colours (Brass Band - Score and Parts)

A Symphony Of Colours contains four movements, which merge seamlessly together; Joy; Chroma (a journey through the composer's perception of synesthesia); Endless Time (where tuned percussion features alongside extended solos for the euphonium); and the final, climactic Ascent. This virtuoso score won a BASCA British Composer Award in the Brass & Wind Band category for its composer, Simon Dobson. Suitable for Championship Section Bands. Duration: 17.00

A Tale of Hope (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Ponsford, Steven

The piece tells the story of Chicago lawyer and Presbyterian church elder Horatio Gates Spafford. In 1873, the Spafford family planned a vacation to England, but last-minute business demands prevented Horatio from sailing with them. Tragedy struck when the ship collided with an iron sailing vessel while crossing the Atlantic, killing 226 people, including all four of Spafford's daughters. His wife, Anna, survived the tragedy, and upon arriving in Cardiff, Wales, she sent a telegram to Spafford that simply read "Saved alone." Shortly afterwards, as Spafford travelled to meet his grieving wife, he was inspired to write the hymn It Is Well with My Soul as his ship passed near where his daughters had died. The hymn was subsequently set to music by fellow American Philip Bliss, with the tune named after the ship on which Spafford's daughters died, Ville du Havre.Composer Steven Ponsford has chosen to portray this story in a substantial composition for brass band. Much of the early music is turbulent, reflecting the long voyage, and then the disaster that claimed Spafford's daughters. After a darker 'Grave' section, the hymn It Is Well With My Soul softly emerges, with the piece ending on a note of optimism and hope.Duration: 11.30

A Thames Journey (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Hess, Nigel - Littlemore, Phillip

Thames Journey is a 10-minute musical journey that follows the river Thames from its origins, as a few drops of water in Wiltshire, to the point where it meets the open sea at Greenwich. Along the way, Hess draws upon many musical links along the Thames, such as an old Wiltshire melody, morris dancing in Oxfordshire, boating songs from Berkshire and street songs in London. With such rich and diverse sources of music across several counties and centuries, this has quite understandably become one of Hess's most popular works to date. Suitable for Advanced Youth/3rd Section Bands and above. Duration: 10.00
