This is a beautiful hymn setting arranged for brass band by Steve Robson, inspired by the words of Charles Oakley (1832-1865), set to the melody of Little Cornard by Martin Shaw (1875-1958).Steve writes: The words of the opening line of the Hymn have added significance for me, in that I am fortunate to live high amongst England's most northerly hills, "The North Pennines".A strikingly beautiful melody which has been artfully scored by Steve to create waves of emotion throughout. Composed by Steve Robson specifically for the Flexi-Collection World Tour Series. This piece is a tribute to the children still affected by the 1986 Chernobyl Nuclear disaster. Chernigov is an area, originally part of the USSR, now Ukraine, originally inhabited by Cossack tribes. This piece is a "Cossack Dance", which starts slowly in a minor key, and then shifts to the tonic major for a lively dance.The Children of Chernigov is part of the Flexi-Collection World Tour Series.Look and Listen (courtesy of Ushaw's Youth Brass Concert - World Tour 2019):Our Flexi-Collection Series:Flexible scoring tailored to your needs - a perfect solution for expanding the repertoire of Junior/Youth brass bands and ensembles. £45.00Legacy Of Light - Christopher Bond
Legacy of Light was commissioned by the family of Howard Bland, Honorary Secretary of Wessex Band Summer School for many years. Rather than a work in a reflective style, the brief was to provide a work which celebrated his life - energy and music which would be fun to perform and listen to. The bubbling compound time signature combined with the cornet and tuned percussion ostinato to open provide immediate impact with the work's subsequent soaring melodies and joyous style a fitting tribute. The work received its world premiere by the joint forces of the brass and wind bands at the 2024 Wessex Band Summer School, conducted by Michael Fowles.

£29.95Ghost of Christmas Past, The - Jonathan Bates
DURATION: 2'30". DIFFICULTY: 2nd+. Composed for Strata Brass in 2020 as part of their COVID-19 induced, virtually recorded 'A Christmas Carol' (a new suite for brass bandlasting around 30 minutes in total), 'The Ghost of Christmas Past' is a lively and virtuosic cornet solo portraying the visions Scrooge is shown of his childhood. Beginning in a jovial mood, the ghost then shows Scrooge his early love life, before showing how Scrooge's unsympathetic and callous ways lead to his loss of love and friendship throughout the years as the music gets gradually darker and darker with each passing section. .

£29.95Under the Cover of Night - Jonathan Bates
DURATION: 3 minutes. DIFFICULTY: 3rd+. 'Under the Cover of Night' was composed for BD1 Brass as part of a set of music inspired by the fairytale of Robin Hood and Maid Marian. . In BD1's adaption of the fairytale, Maid Marian is held hostage by the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and it is up to Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men to rescue her from captivity. This mysterious bluesy feature for Flugel, Drum Kit and Euphonium & Baritone section paints the picture of the group quietly creeping around in their attempt to rescue Marian. Within the music, there is opportunity for staging, with the Merry Men (Euphoniums & Baritones) moving around the band to reach Marian (Flugel) on the other side of the hall.

COMPOSER: Chris CobonMoments in Brass -Set 2Nos. 5 - 8'Moments in Brass ~ Set 2' follows on, chronologically, from Moments in Brass ~ Set 1 and the three programmatic pieces about steam trains. LMR600 Gordon, Tornado (LNER Peppercorn Class A1 60163) and The Lady Armaghdale.In contrast, Moments in Brass are all examples of absolute music and is non-representational. The compositions develop from ideas I have found interesting and, in some cases quirky.The pieces are grouped into sets of four; which allows for shorter pieces that still have musical value. Conductors should not feel compelled to perform all four together (although they do work well in that form) the moments are not movements, but individual pieces in their own right.Musical traits: I particularly like exploring shifting tonal centres, metre and the use of appoggiaturas. Hidden in a number of the Brass Moments is the use of a rising scale, inspired by the brass in the closing sections of Respighi's Pines of Rome.

It is essentially Tielman Susato's Pavanne Bataille with contemporary percussion but with Christmas hints, especially The Twelve Days of Christmas.
