This unique new resource from BrookWright Music will be an essential part of every band's library! All Tuned Up is designed to cater for ensembles for occasions throughout the year. ABOUT THIS PIECE: "Korobeiniki" is a nineteenth-century Russian folk song that tells the story of a meeting between a peddler and a girl, describing their haggling over goods in a veiled metaphor for courtship. Outside of Russia, "Korobeiniki" is widely known as the Tetris theme (titled "A-Type" in the game), from its appearance in Nintendo's 1989 version of the game. One of our most popular arrangements, this piece is high-paced and features all the usual trappings associated with this musical style - fireworks to start, a slow, melancholy iteration of the melody, an unruly accelerando, and all finished with a loud shout ('Oi!') from the band! Root Beer Rag was written for the 1974 album release Streetlife Serenade by American pianist/vocalist/composer Billy Joel.After the success his own recording, several other pianists have performed it both on record and stage. There's also many arrangements of the song made, some of them featuring soloist(s).This arrangement for Brass Band by Svein H. Giske was written to Askoy Brass Band for their participation in the entertainment-competition Siddis Brass in 2016. It's very virtuosic and challenge almost all sections of the band.

The "Rakoczi March" (Hungarian March) was the unofficial state anthem of Hungary before Ferenc Kolcsey wrote the Himnusz which is today the official national anthem of Hungary.The first version of this march-song was probably created around 1730 by one or more anonymous composers, although tradition says that it was the favorite march of Francis Rakoczi II. That early version called back Francis Rakoczi II to save his people. It was very popular in the 18th century but in the 19th century the more refined Rakoczi March became prevalent.Hector Berlioz included the music in his composition "La Damnation de Faust" in 1846, and Franz Liszt wrote a number of arrangements, including his Hungarian Rhapsody No. 15, based on the theme. The march gave its name to a 1933 Austrian-Hungarian feature film - Rakoczy-Marsch This arrangement is based on Berlioz instrumentation and phrasing from his Hungarian March, but in the form of the 19th century Rakoczi March

This simple little romance was written in the style of a Catalan folk song. It is entirely original and undoubtedly influenced by the arrangements of Catalan folk songs for guitar by Miguel Llobet (1878-1938). Typical of the style, the tune is in 6/8 with a gentle lilt and has just one rather refined outburst of passion before retreating back into its shell. The lyrical nature of the music is particularly suited to the brass band.Duration: 3.30

Three Carols was commissioned by the New York Philharmonic as part of their Holiday Brass series and was premiered at Avery Fisher Hall by the New York Philharmonic Principal Brass and Canadian Brass. Originally for 10 players, soon after the premiere I decided to score the piece for brass band. The brass band version was first performed by the New York Staff Band.Through the years I have been intrigued by carious carols from different countries and the challenge of creating musical treatments that sound fresh and original. When commissioned to write these brass arrangements, I wanted to create contrasting movements that could be performed either as a set or individually and thought that three carols from different countries would allow the opportunity for that contrast. The featured carols are the traditional Polish carol Infant Holy, What child is this? with lyrics by William Dix and set to the English folk song Greensleeves and the lesser-known Catalonian carol Cold December flies away.- Joseph Turrin
