The Unfortunate Traveller, Suite for brass band by Imogen Holst

Imogen Holst was inspired to write this suite after the success of her father's Moorside Suite at theNational Brass band Championships in 1928. She submitted it as part of her 1930 portfolio at the RoyalCollege of Music. The title was taken from Thomas Nashe's 1594 romance. Imogen Holst conducted thework with the Carlisle St. Stephen's Band in 1933, after which it remained unperformed until revived in thisnew performing edition by Zone One Brass in Ulverston in 2011. The new performing edition of this livelyand tuneful work gives the music more variety of colour. The suite is a valuable addition to the repertoirefrom a golden period of brass band composition and is ideal for youth and community bands to performin concert or contest.Grade 4Duration: 11 minsPublished in association with G & I Holst Ltd.?55 plus postage and packing, extra score ?10PHM001

ACCOLADE (Brass Band) - Littlemore, Phillip

Accolade, meaning an award, an honour or a laudatory notice. This fanfare for brass band literally builds from the bottom up - a battery of percussion leads to the lower band's statement of the theme before passing through the middle of the band that builds a series of interjections. The theme is then restated in the upper band before the battery of percussion returns to end. The fanfare was written for Regent Brass as the title track for their 1990 recording to celebrate both their 5th anniversary and to celebrate being crowned 3rd Section Champion Band of Great Britain in 1988 - an accolade indeed!Duration: 1:00

Albion (Brass Band - Score and Parts)

Albion was commissioned by the Swiss Brass Band Federation as the test piece for the National Brass Band Championships of England, Belgium, The Netherlands, and Switzerland in 2001, and for Norway in 2002. The composition is dedicated to Markus Bach.Albion, along with Excalibur and Stonehenge, is the third major piece for brass band in which Jan Van der Roost took his inspiration from the British Middle Ages. Although the work is not based on an actual story there are unmistakable epic elements found in this symphonic poem. The piece paints a picture of the conquest of Albion (the earliest known name of the British Island), in which the listener is taken back to the time of King Arthur and his legendary Knights of the Round Table. 13:00

Amazing Grace (Brass Band with opt. Bagpipes - Score and Parts) - Wilkinson, Keith M.

There are several occasions when a brass band is invited to play along with bagpipes and one of the first titles to be mentioned is the American traditional hymn melody, "Amazing Grace". This arrangement was prepared for one such occasion when Brass Band of the Western Reserve, musical director, Dr Keith M Wilkinson, was invited to play at a wedding in 2007. Parts for bagpipes are included in Concert Pitch (as shown in the full score) and in Db, the key in which they are normally pitched. There are optional parts which make the arrangement equally effective without bagpipes. A suggestion when this version is used is to place the cornet soloist at the beginning some distance from the band.

Atlantic Zephyrs (Trombone Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Simons, Gardell - Wilkinson, Keith M.

Soloist, composer and teacher Gardell Simons (1878 - 1945) achieved national prominence as trombone soloist with the Sousa Band. He later successfully made the transition to the orchestral world and became principal trombone in the Cleveland Orchestra as well as being professor of trombone at the Curtis Institute Of Music in Philadelphia. This solo dates from 1915 and describes the soft, gentle breezes of Summer. Canterbury Chorale (Brass Band ??" Score and Parts) - Van der Roost, Jan

This quiet piece with its broad tones was originally written for brass band on request of Robert Leveugle, chairman of the composer's own band: Brass Band Midden Brabant (Belgium). The direct cause was a visit to the beautiful cathedral of the English city Canterbury, in which so many fine compositions sounded throughout the centuries. Later on, Jan Van der Roost rescored this piece for symphonic wind band, exploring the full richness of colours of this formation. Besides solo phrases for several instruments, there are some massive tutti passages making the wind orchestra sound like a majestic organ. By the way: an "ad libitum" organ part adds an extra richness, colour and power to this piece, making it sound even more broad and grand. 06:32
