£33.66A Century of Art (Brass Band) Robbert Vos
A Century of Art was composed for Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht from the town of De Goorn (The Netherlands) for its 100th anniversary in 2022. A version for Fanfare Orchestra was commissioned by the Fanfare Project Orchestra in 2023. The title of the work refers to Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht's 100-year existence and the array of art that has been created in that time. A Century of is a flashy and virtuosic opening work where melodic lines are combined with other surprising compositional elements. You can hear, among some references to some famous brass band test pieces, a quote from Lohengrin by Richard Strauss. A transcription of Lohengrin was used at the 1922 British Open in England, one of the most famous brass band competitions in the world, the same year as Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht was founded. £29.92March from 'The Love for Three Oranges (Brass Band) Prokofiev arr. Wilkinson
This thrilling brass band arrangement of the March from 'The Love for Three Oranges' by Prokofiev has been skillfully arranged by Keith M. Wilkinson. This setting captures the essence of the original orchestral work, while showcasing the power and brilliance of the brass band. In 1918, Sergei Prokofiev undertook his first visit to the United States. A number of concerts of his works were held in Chicago, which were received very favourably. As a result, the director of the Chicago Opera Association, Cleofonte Campanini, commissioned Prokofiev to write an opera. It just so happened that, during his trip, he had written a draft of a libretto, based on the Italian play by Gozzi, L'amore delle tre melarance, adding some additional surrealism to the text. Given Prokofiev's poor English, and Americans unlikely to accept an opera in Russian, French was his final choice. The result, L'amour des trois oranges (or The Love for Three Oranges), which premiered at the Auditorium Theatre in Chicago on 30 December 1921, conducted by Prokofiev himself. The March from this opera is probably the most familiar part and has been used by CBS in the radio-drama series The FBI in Peace and War. It was also used in films such as The Brink's Job and Prokofiev quoted it in the second act of his ballet Cinderella. DURATION: 4 minutes. DIFFICULTY: Championship. The title of this work comes from a line in Martin Luther King Jnr's famous 'I Have a Dream ' speech, portraying the vast expanses of the plains of Georgia and the notable red hue to the surrounding mountains. This piece is very much influenced by the music of American wind band composers Samuel Hazo and Richard Saucedo, both of which are regularly inspired by the scenery of 'the big country'. This piece was composed for Jaren Hornmusikkforening as part of their programme for the 2018 SIDDIS Championships held in Stavanger, Norway. .

DURATION: 3 minutes. DIFFICULTY: 3rd+. 'Under the Cover of Night' was composed for BD1 Brass as part of a set of music inspired by the fairytale of Robin Hood and Maid Marian. . In BD1's adaption of the fairytale, Maid Marian is held hostage by the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and it is up to Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men to rescue her from captivity. This mysterious bluesy feature for Flugel, Drum Kit and Euphonium & Baritone section paints the picture of the group quietly creeping around in their attempt to rescue Marian. Within the music, there is opportunity for staging, with the Merry Men (Euphoniums & Baritones) moving around the band to reach Marian (Flugel) on the other side of the hall.

Dig a little Deeper is one of the featured songs in the Disney animated movie The Pricess and the Frog from 2009.The movie is a so-called American animated musical romantic fantasy comedy-drama.Randy Newman composed the music for the movie which features the famous Dirty Dozen Brass Band on several of the tracks. Dig a little Deeper is performed by Jennifer Lewis and Pinnacle Gospel Choir.This arrangement for Brass Band by Svein H. Giske was written to Askoy Brass Band for their participation in the entertainment-competition Siddis Brass in 2015.

COVENANTERS, The (Brass Band Set) - Kenneth Downie
In 1638, many members of the Presbyterian Church of Scotland signed a document called the National Covenant. By doing so, they were declaring that they acknowledged only Jesus Christ as the spiritual head of their church, and not any king or queen. This had become necessary because the Stuart kings believed in the Divine Right of Monarchs and saw themselves as head of the church. In the previous year, Charles I had forcibly introduced the Book of Common Prayer, invoking the wrath of the common people who faced the threat of torture, transportation or execution if they did not use the new liturgy and worship at their local church. The net result of this was that many met illegally in the countryside or in barns and large houses. These meetings became known as 'conventides' and many took place in the south-west of the country. Anyone caught attending was at risk of execution by the muskets of the dragoons who were employed in the area for that specific purpose. This music was written to honour the bravery and loyalty of these Christians to their faith, in the face of extreme danger, in the hope that it will inspire us also to be faithful. There are overtones of military threat, secrecy and solidarity. An old pentatonic tune is used, which the composer heard as a boy being sung to the words The Lord's My Shepherd.

The title of this work by Gauthier Dupertuis refers to the novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding, published in 1954. Lord of the Flies is intended to be a small symphonic poem describing different episodes of the book: the despair of the children stranded on the island, the use of the unifying conch and symbol of democracy, the adventures, and the formation of the camp and finally the savagery of the clan of Jack which undeniably leads to chaos. The finale is mysterious and half-tone, imbued with both the relief of having been rescued, and a deep sadness linked to the tragic events that have occurred on the island.All the main themes and elements developed in the work come from the idea "d-e-f", exposed from the first bars. The orchestration is intended to be variable in geometry and avoids the main technical difficulties related to the instruments. However, the composer wanted to find as many colors as possible and avoided confining himself to too "simple" harmonies.Lord of the Flies: a piece accessible to most brass bands.
