Parted - Euphonium Solo Francesco Paolo Tosti arr. Joseph Knight

Francesco Paolo Tosti was an Italian composer of songs. Tosti was a staple in fashionable drawing rooms and salons, and in 1880, he was made singing master to the Royal Family. Parted is a song which is ideally suited to the Euphonium. It has been set in the traditional style. The arrangement is suitable for bands of all levels and the solo part is lyrical rather than requiring a high level of technical work. It shows off the timbre of the the Euphonium to it's sonorous heights.

Adoration (Cornet Solo with Brass Band) Florence Price trs. Andrew Wainwright

Florence Price was an American classical composer, pianist, organist and music teacher. She is noted as the first African-American woman to be recognised as a symphonic composer, and the first to have a composition played by a major orchestra. Price composed over 300 works: four symphonies, four concertos, as well as choral works, art songs, chamber music and music for solo instruments. In 2009, a substantial collection of her works and papers that had been previously considered lost was found in her abandoned summer home. Amongst these was this delightful work, Adoration, which had been composed in the 1950s for organ. According to IMSLP.org, the piece "failed to meet notice or renewal requirements to secure statutory copyright with no 'restoration' under the GATT amendments" and therefore is in the public domain. A version for violin and piano by Elaine Fine has become popular. This setting for cornet soloist with brass band has been arranged by Andrew Wainwright. It is also available as a Bb solo with piano here. The Green Hill (Euphonium Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Appermont, Bert

This piece was commissioned by Swiss euphonium virtuoso Eich Schmidli. Bert Appermont dug deep into Celtic music for inspiration and created a fantasy that shows off the incredible, but often overlooked, versatility of the euphonium. Charming lyrical melodies, virtuosic runs and exciting, colourful tuttis create plenty of contrast in this exciting work. The difficulty level for the soloist and band means that almost any band can perform this piece and showcase their euphonium player.Duration: 7:15

Sunset (Cornet Solo with Brass Band) David Robb

Sunset was written in June 2023 as a graduation present for the composer's son Callum and is dedicated to him. It portrays an older father (the composer) reminiscing about the love, respect and pride he has for his grown-up son and all that he has achieved and worked for. Sunset is lyrical and song-like in style. A soaring solo line is accompanied by a mainly homophonic background which should support, but never overpower the soloist. The tutti sections feature the melody accompanied by flowing scalic figures which portray the passing of time. The piece ends with an ad lib cadenza section where the soloist can really put their own mark on the music. Omaggio (Euphonium Concerto No.4) (Euphonium Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Sparke, Philip

Omaggio was commissioned by Steven Mead in celebration of his 60th birthday and in memory of his father, Rex. He gave the premiere of the brass band version in Rome in March 2022, accompanied by the Italian Brass Band conducted by Filippo Cangiamilla. The concert band premiere took place on 6th July that year as part of the 2022 Spanish International Tuba Euphonium Conference, accompanied by the Banda municipal de msica de Malaga. The concerto is set in 3 continuous movements, which are united by a recurring syncopated interval of a fifth. The first movement, Fantasia, opens with this motive accompanying an extended monologue for the soloist. This is followed by a lengthy bridge passage by the band, which is eventually joined by the soloist, who guides the music back to the opening soliloquy, leading to an energetic central section. This develops until the opening material again returns to introduce the second movement, Ballad, which revolves around an expressive melody for the soloist, interspersed by accompanied cadenzas. The third movement, The King Triumphant, pays homage to Steven's late father, Rex, and its title alludes both to Rex's name (Rex being Latin for king) as well as his love of Eric Ball's Salvationist masterpiece, The Kingdom Triumphant. The finale is an energetic tour-de-force featuring an acrobatic 6/8 melody, which is interrupted twice by the magnificent hymn tune, Helmsley, which Ball uses so effectively in The Kingdom Triumphant. A galloping coda brings the work to a close.

Abide With Me (Euphonium Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts) - McGhee, Paul

My arrangement of William H. Monk's tune of 1861, uses the euphonium soloist as the central figure for the melodic line in the three verses. Surrounding the solo line is an irregular pulsed figure in the percussion to give the music an unsettled feel whilst the muted ensemble lightly colour the melodic contour of the soloist. From the low beginnings of the piece, where no high instrumentation is used, we are led through the darkened texture to a bright finale, although the sense of the forbidding is always present.Abide With Me has always been a favourite hymn of mine and it was when watching the film 28 Days Later that I believed it would make a rather striking arrangement for brass band. This was confirmed further when the hymn was used at the 2012 opening ceremony of the London Olympics. The juxtaposition between the static, slow moving melody and the rhythmic effects of the dancers was something that I thought could be captured in an arrangement.- Paul McGheeDuration: 5.00

Two Aquarelles (Euphonium Feature with Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Delius, Frederick - Hindmarsh, Paul

In the late spring of 1917, the Bradford born composer, Frederick Delius (1856 - 1934) composed two short part-songs at his home in Grez-sur-Loing. The river ran along the bottom of his garden and he called the two miniatures To be sung of a summer night on the water. The First World War was at its height, but one would never guess that from the languid and serene quality of these richly textured nocturnes. The songs were first heard in London on 28 June, sung by the Oriana Madrigal Society, conducted by Charles Kennedy Scott. In 1932 Delius's amanuensis, Eric Fenby, arranged them for string orchestra as Two Aquarelles. While I have taken Fenby's title, my arrangement is a note-for-note transcription of the choral original. It was prepared in early in 1993 for Besses o' th' Barn Band, of which I was Musical Director at the time. In the second song, the prominent tenor solo has been given to the solo euphonium, who should stand apart from the band in performance.- Paul HindmarshDuration: 5.00

ARIA (Euphonium, Trombone or Flugel Horn) (Brass Band) - Finn, Robert

An aria is a lyrical dramatic solo work for voice. For this work an instrumental soloist interprets the vocal part. The typical melancholy, nostalgia and drama of the Italian aria combines with filmtrack like passages (Morricone) to form the main ingredients of this simple composition. The solo part can be played by a euphonium, a trombone or a tenor saxophone (or flugelhorn).
