£33.33Fanfare Prelude on 'Richmond' (Brass Band) Charles Wesley arr. Andrew Wainwright
Fanfare Prelude on 'Richmond' was written for the inaugural Texas Brass Fest, held at Round Top Festival Institute on 27 May 2023, for the four premier brass bands in Texas - Austin, Dallas, Houston and San Antonio Brass Bands. It is based on the much loved hymn of the church by Charles Wesley, which is also known as 'O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing', the first verse of which reads: O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer's praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace! For maximum effect it is suggested that cornets and trombones are staged stood around the band, although if this is not possible then traditional band formation will be acceptable. The title refers to the big radio telescope at Jodrell Bank in England. This composition is not exactly a symphonic poem, although it tries to give a musical portrait of eternity and infinity. 'Jodrell Bank' is a real classic of the brass band repertoire with its romantic style, its impressive climaxes alternating with quiet pauses and its sparkling finale. Peter York was above all a composer of film and theatre music and was very active in the world of entertainment and light music. Yet he had one musical hobby: composing for brass band even if he had no links at all with the brass band world. At first, he signed his brass band compositions with the pen name Ivor Gould but later used his own name. Among his most important compositions are The Shipbuilders Suite, Gallions Reach and Jodrell Bank.

£59.00Windsor Great Park - P. Yorke
The sparkling overture of this piece is no doubt 'great' and it is followed by a terrific melodic line with several beautiful romantic highlights. By means of a slowing down we get a more moderate tempo (tempo II) which enables a kind of concert march theme to develop. This is Peter York at best. Steve Sykes was most happy to recover this composition which was considered as being untraceable for many years.

DescriptionMonteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine (Vespers for the Blessed Virgin) is a musical setting by Claudio Monteverdi of the evening vespers on Marian feasts, scored for soloists, choirs, and orchestra. It is an ambitious work in scope, style and scoring, and has a duration of around 90 minutes. Published in Venice with a dedication to Pope Paul V dated 1 September 1610 as Sanctissimae Virgini Missa senis vocibus ac Vesperae pluribus decantandae, cum nonnullis sacris concentibus, ad Sacella sive Principum Cubicula accommodata ("Mass for the Most Holy Virgin for six voices, and Vespers for several voices with some sacred songs, suitable for chapels and ducal chambers"), it is mercifully regularly shortened to Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610.Monteverdi was born and spent the first part of his working life in Cremona before moving to Mantua (where he composed the Vespers) and finally attaining one of the top jobs in Italian renaissance music as Maestro di Capella at the Basilica di San Marco in Venice. To thy strong bidding, task Ariel and all his quality. - William Shakespeare: The Tempest, Act 1, Scene 2Ariel was written for the Hammonds Band to open their programme at the 2019 Brass in Concert Championships at The Sage Concert Hall in Gateshead, where it received its premiere. The title is taken from the character in Shakespeare's play 'The Tempest'. Ariel is an immensely powerful "air spirit" or demon bound to serve Prospero, the exiled Duke of Milan, after being released by Prospero from imprisonment in a tree. In the play Ariel's magical abilities are used to help Prospero revenge himself on his enemies and reclaim his dukedom, whereupon Ariel finally regains his freedom.You can hear an audio preview and follow the score below: Performance notes:The cornets and horns are split into two "choirs" to be placed left and right of the band. It may be possible for the choirs to play their opening flourish offstage, and the optional repeated sections in the opening are to accommodate stage movement if required. Trombones form a third "choir" which should ideally stand centrally between basses and percussion, and the euphoniums and baritones should sit in front of the basses. The work requires four percussionists, although if four are not available the 2nd part may be omitted.Percussion 1: Kit - bass drum, snare, 3 x toms, hi-hat, suspended cymbal - and 3 x temple blocksPercussion 2: Tam tam and orchestral bass drum.Percussion 3: Glockenspiel and timpaniPercussion 4: Tubular bellsSoprano, solo cornets and 3rd cornets require cup mutes. DescriptionCoventry Carol is a traditional English Christmas carol dating back to at least the sixteenth century, where it formed part of the Pageant of the Shearmen and Tailors, one of the Coventry mystery plays. The plays themselves date back to at least 1392, but the earliest surviving record of the music is in a manuscript writen in 1534. Religious suppression put a stop to the plays by the end of the sixteenth century, but the manuscript recording the Coventry Carol survived and was published in 1817 as part of a revival of interest in the medieval and renaissance periods. The carol refers to the 'Massacre of the Innocents' from chapter two of the Gospel of Matthew, in which Herod orders the massacre of all Hebrew children under the age of two.This arrangement was first performed by the Blackley Band conducted by Andrew Baker in 2004.You can follow the score with and audio preview below: Duration approximately 3'05".Playable by all standards of band.

HAPPY LAND (Cornet Solo with Brass Band Set) - Terry Camsey
This composition is a very challenging one for the soloist and requires the accompaniment to be subservient at all times. The soloist will find it helpful to, generally, adopt a very light and playful style. As a young aspiring cornet player, the composer was influenced by a number of soloists of that day, one being Del Staigers of the Goldman Band in the USA. Many of the musical motifs reflect that influence and it is hoped that this solo will, in turn, inspire the many aspiring cornet players of today.

This arrangement was made after hearing Astor Piazzolla s 1986 recording of his own work written in 1965. The original instrumentation of bandoneon, violin and string bass is here arranged for three wind soloists with Concert Band. The Soprano Sax is the main soloist (filling the bandoneon role), while the trombone and clarinet shares the violin part as a kind of flirting undertone to the soprano saxophone. It s not possible to make a 100% correct notation of the solo parts, so it s recommended to listen to the record album Zero Hour from 1986 to get the best impression of the work. £45.00Two Herefordshire Carols (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Vaughan Williams, Ralph - Hindmarsh, Paul
The two traditional tunes that comprise this straightforward setting were sung to Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) by Mrs. Esther Smith of Dilwyn, near Hereford, during one of the great composer's folk song collecting tours of England in the early years of the twentieth century. They were included in Twelve Traditional Carols from Herefordshire, edited by E.M. Leather and Vaughan Williams. The words to which Mrs. Smith sung the first tune were probably drawn from eighteenth century evangelical sources. The editors replaced these with six of the 16 verses of a traditional seventeenth century carol text, Joseph and Mary.The second melody, which appears as the centre piece of this arrangement, was sung to a carol that tells of a farmer who ploughed on Christmas Day. It is in fact a translation of a German traditional carol Gelobet seist du Jesu Christ that was published in Goodly Psalmes and Spiritualle Songes (1546) translated by Miles Coverdale. Vaughan Williams used the title Coverdale's Carol.The brass band settings follow the settings made by Vaughan Williams in 1920 for the Oxford Book of Carols. Since his simple harmonic approach is similar in both settings, three verses of his haunting version of Coverdale's Carol have been folded inside four verses of the slightly more animated treatment of Joseph and Mary. The harmonisations of Vaughan Williams have been given some brass band colour, with some verses taken by soloists from the ensemble. The accompaniment figuration that embellishes the second verse of Joseph and Mary has been used to open and close this arrangement and to bind the verses together.- Paul HindmarshDuration: 5.00
