    Fantasy - and Robert Childs

In the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries the 'fantasia' or 'pot-pourri' was a popular genre built on a selection of hit tunes of the day. Hummel wrote three such works, for guitar, cello, and viola; this arrangement is based on a shortened version of the work for viola and orchestra. The original, published as Hummel's Opus 94, dates from about 1820 and includes themes from Mozart's Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, Die Entfuhrung aus dem Serail, and Rossini's Tancredi.

Volcano (Score only) - Robert Simpson

One of the composer's most enduring works, Volcano was written for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain in 1979. The composer writes: "While it is, of course, possible to listen to this piece with the erruption of a volcano in mind, it is also possible to interpret the title in a figurative sense - that is to say, as one might refer to a 'volcanic temperament'. Alternatively, some may prefer to listen to is simply as a piece of music. I would recommend the latter." Duration: 12:00

    Intrada - Farr, R

Based on the Chorale 'Ein' Feste Burg' (A Safe Stronghold) by Martin Luther this song became a battle song for the Reformation. The setting contrasts the piety of the chorale with modern rhythms and harmonies in a dramatic and daring presentation. The piece works best with four trombones but small note 'cues' are provided. The cornets should be divided into three groups, spread as widely as is practical.

    Automne - Chaminade, C - Bell, K

Although female French composer Ccile Chaminade wrote many large orchestral works, she is best remembered for her extensive output of piano salon music. Automne, probably her most endearing, has been arranged by Katie Bell as a euphonium solo. A difficult solo, but well worth the rehearsal.Difficult, 1st section +
