A festive, musical cocktail by Tim Paton for brass band, bringing together a folk-feel dance motif and a familiar carol, to create the atmosphere of a village celebration.Opening with a lively Jig, where the music joyfully dances around the band, the piece then settles to offer the tranquility of Gustav Holst's beautiful melody In the Bleak Mid-Winter.This peacefulness is soon overtaken by the reintroduction of the dance motif, finishing off the musical celebration with the dance and the carol mingling together.A very nice addition to Christmas repertoire, presenting a little bit of tradition amidst some lovely, imaginative scoring.Also available for concert band.

This music was inspired by stories of those working in the dark and dangerous conditions of the coal mines, and particularly those hewers right at the coal face. Based around an original theme, the music captures a hymn-like setting of a miner's prayer for safety. Depictions of industry and difficult times follow, but resolve into a triumphant conclusion where dark imagery give way to light. The music is the composer's proud tribute to the industrial heritage of his forebears. Triquetra takes the form of a free fantasia on the familiar hymn Old Hundreth. The tune appears in full in four different guises - harmonically and rhythmically altered on each occasion. Fragments of the melody are also used to generate new ideas, most notably in the contrasting middle section where the opening phrase of the hymn appears in inversion.As to the title, the Triquetra (from the Latin triquetrus meaning three-corned) symbol is representative of the Christian Trinity and in that respect relates to the final line of text in Old Hundreth, also known as the Doxology: Praise God from whom all blessings flow; Praise Him, all creatures here below; Praise Him above, ye heavenly host; Praise Father, Son and Holy Ghost.Triquetra was written for Stephen Cobb in recognition of 30 years outstanding service as conductor of the International Staff Band of the Salvation Army.Duration: 7.00

After touring as a trombone soloist around Europe he settled in USA where he was one of the featured soloists of the Gilmore Band, later forming his own touring band. He is credited with being a pioneer in demonstrating the abilities of the trombone as a solo instrument.This arrangement was prepared at the request of Brett Baker.
