Sobre Las Olas - Juventino Rosas - Chris Gorman
This is possibly one of the best-known tunes around the world and is speculated to heard in more motion pictures than any other song. However, if you asked someone to "name that tune", then most would probably struggle. This classic Waltz has mistakenly in the past thought to be Viennese and has frequently thought to be the work of Johann Strauss II. The music is the most famous work of the composer and has long been associated in the US with fair ground rides and trapeze artists. Tetris is without doubt, one of the bestselling games worldwide since its global release in the mid-1980s. Challenging the player to organise a series of falling blocks, the theme tune based on the Russia traditional song, Korobeiniki, in its electronic format, became synonymous with the hand held game. This work has now been scored in an exciting arrangement for brass band which builds and builds to an exciting finale. After performing a number of arrangements by Gavin Somerset, the band commissioned him to compose for them, an original march that would serve as their signature tune for years to come. The march was composed in a light 6/8 time that would get passes by listening and audience's feet tapping along. Dance of the Troglodytes - Naomi Styles
If your resident tuned percussionist hasn't had much to do of late, then why not present him or her with Dance of the Troglodytes? While not strictly a xylophone solo, it features this instrument strongly with fast arpeggios over a steady tune that gradually rises in intensity and excitement. 'Dance of the Troglodytes' is one of a modern day 'Carnival of the Animals' - a series of brass band tunes inspired by Christopher Lloyd's book 'What on Earth evolved?' which ranks the species which have most influenced planet Earth. The music celebrates Homo Sapiens, ranked by Lloyd as the 6th most influential species. Emerging from Africa about 160,000 years ago from Homo erectus stock, Homo Sapiens' quick thinking, manual dexterity and increasingly complex tool making skills made it the only surviving human species. Now we humans have spread to every corner of the globe, shaping it through agriculture, transportation and industry. Dance of the Troglodytes echoes the rise of humans as they emerge from primitive life and gradually create the complex world we live in today.

Festive Intrada - Bill Willis
FESTIVE INTRADAThis is a lively opener using the well know Christmas tunes of Silent Night and O Come, All Ye FaithfulAfter a bright opening, Silent Night comes in at letter B from Solo Cornets and Soprano followed by the Horns and back to the Cornets. This leads into a brief reference to O Come, All Ye Faithful from the Trombones before the full tune appears at letter C. Care with the syncopated rhythms to ensure the momentum is maintained. As the piece concludes, Silent Night returns, with a bar of Deck the Halls thrown in for good measure leading to a bright ending.

Suo Gan - Traditional - Max Stannard
Suo Gan is a traditional Welsh lullaby which was written by an anonymous composer. The song features in Steven Spielberg's 1987 film, Empire of the Sun, where a young Christian Bale lip syncs to a performance by James Rainbird. The song has been recorded by great Welsh singers including Charlotte Church and Bryn Terfel. This solo gives a flexible option of any of your Bb instrumentalists in the band taking on the lead part of this beautiful tune.

£69.99The Green Hills of Tyrol - Philip Sparke
The Green Hills of Tyrol was commissioned by Jrena and Beat Knusel for their son, Swiss euphonium player Joel Knusel, to celebrate his 20th birthday in 2019. The request was for a piece suitable for use in a solo competition, possibly using a Scottish or Irish melody, and composer Philip Sparke suggested an 'old-fashioned' air varie might be a suitable idea. The piece follows the well-established formula of a theme followed by four variations. The history of the original melody is fascinating and, although it is now well-known as a bagpipe tune, its background is Austrian or Italian, rather than Scottish. The tune appears as a chorus of Swiss soldiers in Rossini's 1829 opera William Tell but was possibly an existing Tyrolean folk tune. In 1854, during the Crimean War, Pipe Major John MacLeod of the 93rd Highlanders heard a band of the Sardinian contingent playing selections from the opera in camp before the Siege of Sebastopol. He was struck by the melody and arranged it for his pipers, calling it The Green Hills of Tyrol, referring to Tell's visit to that corner of Austria in the opera. It has since become universally popular among pipe bands who usually refer to it as A Scottish Soldier, following the addition of new lyrics in a 1961 hit by Andy Stewart.

£91.99Pulcinella - Philip Sparke
Pulcinella was commissioned by the Taiwanese euphonium player Tzu-Hsiang Lin. Lin is a renowned soloist and teacher and a Besson Euphonium Artist. He teaches euphonium at Taipei National University of the Arts, National Taiwan University of Arts, Shih Chien University and National Kaohsiung Normal University. Lin gave the premiere of Pulcinella in both its concert band and brass band versions in January 2021. Pulcinella continues Sparke's series of euphonium solos named after characters of the Italian commedia dell'arte and opens with a long and expressive minor melody for the soloist over a brooding accompaniment. This is taken up briefly by the full band and is extended by the soloist after a change of key. A cadenza, accompanied by fragments of the main melody leads to a complete change of mood, tempo and tonality, introducing a Vivo section starting with a perky syncopated tune for the soloist. The band then uses elements of this new tune to introduce a change of key, where the soloist introduces a more lyrical second subject over a pulsing accompaniment. The band then takes this up and changes key to reintroduce the original Vivo melody, which leads to a short and acrobatic coda to bring the work to a spectacular close.
