Twins - Jan Hadermann
Twins is a composition about two children, born at the same moment, growing up together yet with totally different characters. One twin is sensitive and introverted whilst the other is much more lively and energetic. This is reflected in the musical motifs of the piece. The quiet first melody which gains tension through continuous transposition is succeeded by the joyous rocking melody of the second twin.

This evocative concert piece begins with a dreamy introduction in which we here the firt theme. The musical tension is gradually increased in the Grandioso with a new forceful theme being heard. A gentle solo for cornet with band accompaniment.Paseo is a Spanish word for a leisurely walk or stroll. The soloist takes the musical line for a walk with no great sense of hurry. There is one moment where the pleasantness of the stroll is threatened but it quickly passes and the good mood is resumed. Technically this needs a good sense of cantabile and control over the range from low D to D two octaves higher. In order to allow the soloist to sing through without fighting the accompaniment, cornets and percussion are omitted.Duration: 4.15

Banana Island is an extraordinary fictional place: coconut palms, date palms, mango trees, banana trees and mangroves grow in abundance. Animals live there in heavenly harmony. Richard Strauss (1864 - 1949) was a famous conductor and composer when he wrote Feierlicher Einzug der Ritter des Johanniter-Ordens (Solemn Entrance of the Knights of the Order of Saint John) in 1909. One of only a handful of his works written exclusively for winds, Strauss composed Feierlicher Einzug for the investiture ceremonies of the Order of St. John, a Christian military order that was founded in Jerusalem in 1023 to care for poor, sick, or injured pilgrims journeying to the Holy Land.Strauss scored Feierlicher Einzug (TrV 224) for a large ensemble of fifteen trumpets, four horns, four trombones, two tubas and timpani. He saw enough potential in its stately character and majestic conclusion to produce a version for symphony orchestra with organ and it has been arranged for a variety of brass ensembles with or without organ since then.This version for British style brass band was adapted from the original in 1990 by Paul Hindmarsh for the exclusive use of Besses o' th' Barn Band, of which he was then the musical director. £154.99A Brussels Requiem (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Appermont, Bert
The attacks in Brussels on 22 March 2016 created a shockwave throughout Belgium and the rest of the world. Equally, the attacks in Paris and Nice led to great public indignation, fear and disbelief. What has happened to the western world? Have our cultures grown apart to such an extent that we do not understand each other anymore? Bert Appermont's intention was to voice certain emotions that these acts of terror have caused: particularly fear, grief, anger, and helplessness. He uses the French children's song Au Claire de la Lune as a connecting thread throughout the work. This piece is also about hope and faith in another world, and is meant to pay homage to all victims, resulting in a dignified remembrance. The musical development is presented in four through-composed parts, titled Innocence, In Cold Blood, In Memoriam - We Shall Rise Again and A New Day. This work was commissioned by the Brassband Oberosterreich (Brass Band Upper Austria) to be played at the European Brass Band Championships 2017.Duration: 16.30

In this three movement piece the composer experiments with lyrical motives combined with rhythmical pulses in different meters throughout the piece. In the finale, the musical scene is taken over completely by groove-based rhythms. This takeover, however, is of a friendly nature, as the various beats are not being conceived as rivals of the lyrical motives, but are rather supposed to infuse energy and vitality to the latter. Thus, one gets the impression of an ongoing acceleration throughout the piece. Duration: 9.30
