Composed for World Solo Champion Katrina Marzella and the Cornwall Youth Brass Band, A Hebridean Lullaby is a beautiful and haunting melody from the pen of Philip Harper, taking its inspiration from the music and folksong of the Hebrides; a cluster of islands off the west coast of Scotland. Commissioned through a BBC Fame Academy Bursary, this piece is one which is enjoyed and admired by both performers and audiences the world over. The atmosphere created by the score is simply stunning. It's an outstanding addition to the baritone horn's concert repertoire.

Instrumentation:2 Trumpets in CHorn in FTromboneTubaWritten in memory of Philip Jones, this short work was first performed at his memorial concert held at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2000. Scored for Brass Quintet, it was performed by former members of the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble.My friendship with Philip Jones stretched back to my student days, when my Quintet for Brass was performed during my final year at the Royal Academy of Music. Philip was present at that premiere in 1967, and soon after that his ensemble performed and broadcast the Quintet on a UK Tour, including a performance in the finals of the BBC Young Composer's Competition. I owe him a huge debt of gratitude for promoting a work by a then unknown young composer.I use a brief quote from the opening of my 1967 Brass Quintet in this work, which is generally rather sombre in character, except for the sudden change of mood and tempo in the short final section, when the clouds suddenly lift and the sun shines through.- Edward GregsonDuration: 5.00

The great irony of John Barry's Academy Award-winning score for Out of Africa (which also took the Oscar as Best Picture) is that it almost never was - director Sydney Pollack had originally envisioned the film with native African music, going as far as laying the indigenous score down as he was editing. But the weight of John Barry's arguments held sway, and the composer delivered on his intent: a lush, romantic masterpiece for the ages. This romantic film is marked by its many breathtaking views of unspoiled African landscapes. John Barry's main title theme masterfully captures the moods and feels of the film. Fanfare For Celebration
The original wind band version of Fanfare for a Celebration was written for the wind band of Dartington Summer School, under the direction of Paul Dummer. I created this brass version for Regent Brass Band in 2014 under the direction of Paul Archibald. I've also written versions for other brass ensembles which have been used at English Brass Academy courses. It is intended to be a short, exuberant celebration piece of moderate difficulty.

Paul was a fellow student of the composer at the Royal Academy of Music in the 1960's. The Flourish was later used in a version for brass band in a work entitled Occasion.
