Fanfares and Proclamations was originally written in 2015 by Steven Ponsford for the massed bands of the International Staff and Melbourne Staff Bands of The Salvation Army. This piece of music, suitable as a concert opener, makes use of the hymn tunes Miles Lane and Diadem, both of which are associated with the words 'All hail the power of Jesus name'. VIEW SCORE PDF This arrangement of the popular carol Ding Dong Merrily on High is the first published work by BrookWright Music of English arranger Stephen Tighe. This accessible setting receives a fresh, rhythmic treatment, aided by the use of sleigh bells and tubular bells. The tune itself first appeared as a secular dance tune known under the title Branle de l'Official in Orchesographie, a dance book written by the French cleric, composer and writer Jehan Tabourot (1519-1593). The carol was first published in 1924 in his The Cambridge Carol-Book: Being Fifty-two Songs for Christmas, Easter, and Other Seasons. Woodward took an interest in church bell ringing, which no doubt aided him in writing it. The macaronic style is characteristic of Woodward's delight in archaic poetry. The composer writes: 'This work is a personal interpretation of the well known hymn What a Friend We Have in Jesus. This piece is autobiographical in that it reflects the friendship I have with Jesus, and some of the moods, nature and outcomes of many of those conversations. For example, the Blues section is representative of times where I present my 'blues' to him, and he turns them around. It's very personal and hard to describe the full nature of my relationship, but this music provides a good window. He is certainly my Lord, my Saviour, and my most precious friend.' Firefly (brass band score & parts) - Simon Dobson
Firefly was composed by award-winning composer Simon Dobson (b.1981) to provide an entertaining up-tempo concert work for community and youth bands. Composed in funk-rock style, and is based on the groove beat with which it opens. Dobson says, "Firefly was written as a break from my more serious music and as a 'hat tip' to the various types of beat orientated music I listen to." It was first performed by Oslofjord Brass in Norway and in its wind version by Harmonie Shostakovich, Switzerland. Duration: 5-6 minutes. INSTRUMENTATION: 1 Eflat Sop. COMPOSER: P. W. Jones"Rock Mood" has been written with the beginner Band in mind. The arrangement focuses on rhythm and sectional playing.This piece has quavers in pairs or, groups of four which always start on beats one or three. Pitch does not change on any pair but may change on the second pair of a group of four. Staccato and staccatissimo are both used in this composition. Please ensure that the difference is observed by the players and more importantly, play full value notes where no staccato or, staccatissimo is shown."Rock Mood" is a very sectional arrangement with tutti and soli sections. The soli sections may be played soli or if desired, as a solo. There are also cues to assist in flexibility for missing instruments and artistic freedom for the conductor.Some alternate parts (see below) have been included to cater for the different methods and syllabus.
