This has become a Christmas song that has its roots in a love duet between the young Fleksnes and classmate Victoria. The class will be competing with a duet in a song competition. The text gives hope of love and links it to Christmas traditions. "A Dream of Christmas, About Love" is the first line of the text. "The Young Fleksnes" runned as advent calender on TV Norge in 2010. This arrangement feature an flugelhorn soloist and a euphonium soloist. Please be aware of the dynamics between soloists and accompaniment. Adjust the dynamics according to the musicians in the ensemble.

£102.99The African Connection - Carl Wittrock
Carl Wittrock's wide interest in global folk-music resulted in this concert-piece based on original African rhythms. Obviously, the percussion section has a conspicious role to play, but the band too may indulge itself in moments of thoroughly delightful excitement. The introduction depicts the awakening of nature, and develops into a dance. The (main) motif of this dance is from a dance entitled Apollo and comes from Gambia. Its accompaniment consists of an ostinato pattern by balaphon-master Maudo Susa. The quiet middle movement is based on the rhythm of the 'gigbo' : a traditional dance from Ghana. In the final movement -which also bears a slight resemblanceto a theme from 'The Lion King'- the so-called 'Kono' rhythm is used. The work is played most advantageously using djembes. Challenge and please your percussion section with 'The African Connection'.

Tempo and good articulation is a very big part of the energy of this piece. Fortissimo first appears at bar 113. A useful tip: It's possible to practice this one also at lower dynamic levels.

Mahalageasca is a piece that make you happy both to listen and perform.It's possible to play the piece as a stage entrance piece. Repeat bars 1 to 8 several times. You might let the Drum set and some Percussion start alone. After basses have played their first eight bars, move on to bar nine.It is also possible to perform is as an ancore where you might change positions for the brass players but use the same pattern with Percussion as above.Here's a suggestion for set-up:Backrow sits in front of the conductor (on horn chairs)Soprano and Solo Cornets standing behind them.Trombones sits at the conductors right (on Euphonium/Baritone-chairs)Basses sitting behind the TrombonesFlugelhorn and horns on the left (sitting on the solo cornet chairs)Euphoniums and Baritones behind the horns.Please do not play too loud on mf. A bit press on the start of the slurs often better the emphasis (some marcatos written as well)Bars 96 to 136 is challenging for mallet percussion. They can be played as solo, or two players might share it in a convenient way.

*Karl Whelan's Euphonium Concerto with Brass Band is written in three linked movements: I: Prelude II: Aria III: Scherzo The first movement, Prelude, is in a mirror image sonata form and with its menacing ostinato sets the tone for the entire concerto and also introduces material on which the concerto is based. During this movement, the soloist has the opportunity to display their technical ability as well as the extremes of the instruments range. A chord based on the notes of the ostinato signal the beginning of the second movement, Aria. Here, material from the first movement has been weaved together and moves through a multitude of keys, the soloist is able to show the expressive side of the instrument to create an almost yearning, operatic aria. A reiteration of the 1st subject takes us into an almost march like figure at the beginning of the third movement, Scherzo. This is then interrupted both times by dance-like scherzo which, as with the rest of the concerto navigates itself through different keys leading to the cadenza that even the temple blocks have the the chance of participating in! The concerto concludes with almost a battle between the band (playing fragments of the first and second subjects from the first movement), and soloist who is attempting to have the last word! £33.10A Century of Art (Brass Band) Robbert Vos
A Century of Art was composed for Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht from the town of De Goorn (The Netherlands) for its 100th anniversary in 2022. A version for Fanfare Orchestra was commissioned by the Fanfare Project Orchestra in 2023. The title of the work refers to Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht's 100-year existence and the array of art that has been created in that time. A Century of is a flashy and virtuosic opening work where melodic lines are combined with other surprising compositional elements. You can hear, among some references to some famous brass band test pieces, a quote from Lohengrin by Richard Strauss. A transcription of Lohengrin was used at the 1922 British Open in England, one of the most famous brass band competitions in the world, the same year as Brass Band Kunst naar Kracht was founded.
