Eventus - Lake of Dreams - Paul Lovatt-Cooper

Eventus – Lake of Dreams was composed for Dr. Robert Childs and the Grimethorpe Colliery Band especially for the 2015 Brass In Concert Championships at the Sage, Gateshead. The music acts as a curtain raiser, introducing the band in sections, initially featuring the percussion and low brass. A virtuoso duet then ensues, quickly followed by a flugel and horn duet leading into each section of the band being individually showcased, before the conductor finally enters the stage.Inspired by the Lacus Somniorum (Lake of Dreams), the music is optimistic in style and follows Paul Lovatt-Cooper’s trademark formula, creating a spinetingling ‘opener’ with a difference! The work received its world premiere performance during Grimethorpe’s August 2015 tour of Australia and is featured on the CD ‘Grimethorpe Entertain’.

    Harry's Song - Peter Meechan

Harry's Song is the second movement of Origins, a concerto for euphonium. Happy and reflective in nature, the main melody was written on the evening that my closest friend, Mark Bousie (a fine euphoniumist himself), and his wife Jayne, had their first child - Harry Bousie. It seemed only fitting that this song should be written for Harry in celebration.

Bestowal of a Century - Christopher Bond

Tenor Horn Solo with Brass BandBestowal of a Century (2014) was commissioned by Lowenna Taylor, and funded through her Harry Mortimer Trust award which she was presented with at the 2013 British Open Championship following the completion of her studies at the Royal Welsh College of Music in Cardiff. The 15-minute work received its world premiere at the Cornwall Youth Brass Band Christmas concert in 2014 with solosit, Lowenna, working alongside the band under the baton of Les Neish. The Bestowal refers to the presentation of the Royal Trophy by the then Prince of Wales to the famous West of England Bandsman’s Festival in Bugle in 1913. Over the years it has been won by some of the greatest names in brass banding, including Black Dyke and Munn & Feltons - although more recently it has become a wonderful open festival that includes sections for local bands as well as visitors from all over the banding globe. 2014 marked the one-hundredth anniversary of the presentation of the trophy, which is the only brass band trophy to have the official seal of royal patronage. The work, in three distinct sections, opens in a mysterious way, building progressively with interjections from the horn. The composer notes its as though one can imagine different part of the trophy being put together, piece by piece, until the trophy is complete and a climax is reached. Following this, a playful theme is presented which is developed throughout the first section and interacting between soloist and band. The second movement, in complete contrast, is a lyrical melody; heart-wrenching throughout, and sits well both as part of the concerto and also as a stand-alone solo item. The third movement is light-hearted and virtuosic, demonstrating the technical capabilities of the instrument with fast and virtuosic playing, and a cadenza towards the end of the work.

Land of the Living Skies - Peter Meechan

From the composer:a??Commissioned by tuba virtuoso Patrick Sheridan, Land of the Living Skies is inspired by the love of photography shared by both Patrick and I.After moving from the UK to Saskatchewan, Canada, there were many changes, but perhaps the most striking of all were the skyscapes that my new home produced; stunning sunsets, incredible views of the Milky Way, amazing moonlit landscapes, and - of course - the Northern Lights. This piece was the last I wrote before moving away from Saskatchewan and. given that the Province calls itself the a??Land of the Living Skiesa?, it seemed only fitting to name the work after its amazing skies that had provided a lifetimea??s worth of inspiration. The piece is dedicated to Patrick Sheridan, an amazing tubist, musician, educator and friend.a?Pete Meechan, January 2018

Song of Hope - Peter Meechan

Song of Hope is dedicated to my good friend Ryan Anthony (principal trumpet with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra) and his charity, Cancer Blows - a foundation set up to raise awareness and money to further the research that has helped give their family a hope for a future following Ryana??s diagnosis of Multiple MyelomaUpon hearing the middle movement (simply titled a??Songa?) of my cornet concerto, Milestone, Ryan asked me if I could change the end from its current reflective ending to something more uplifting, and to title it Song of Hope, giving it much more meaning than I could have ever imagined. As well as a wind band scoring without soloist, Song of Hope exists with 1, 2 or 3 soloists, accompanied by either wind band, brass band, brass ensemble or symphony orchestra. For my friend Ryan. Each set comes with the soloist part for 1 soloist. SONG OF FREEDOM (Brass Band Parts only) - Arnold, Malcolm

Brass Band Parts only. Score and Children's Voices SA parts available separately. The first performance was given on 12th May 1973 at the Harlow Sportscentre by the Netteswell School Band and Choir, conducted on that occasion by the composer. The four movements are: Prelude; Hymn; Intermezzo; Postlude. Duration: 19:00
