Gemini Concerto was commissioned by and written for Ryukoku University (Japan), Andre Henry and Shoichiro Hokazono. Set in three movements, the concerto aims to explore the close relationship, as solo instruments, between the cornet and euphonium, exploiting the many common factors between the two as well as the subtly different characteristics they possess in terms of both lyrical and rhythmic playing. The first movement is a bustling toccata and the second movement is lyrical and improvisatory in nature. A fantastic piece and a great addition to the repertoire!

We need to match desire with action when attempting something new - the sense of excitement and hope will need to be drawn from the music to convey this message.The music tells a compelling story of purpose, hope and passion....in the words of Col. Hannibal Smith from the A-Team, "I love it when a plan comes together!"

Norge i rodt, hvitt og blatt ("Norway in Red, White and Blue") was commissioned by the Oslo Fagott Choir (yes, that is indeed a gay men's choir) for a concert with The Staff Band of the Armed Forces in 2015. I was given artistic licence to write a more modern and somewhat 'eclectic' arrangement for this originally Swedish melody written by Lars-Erik Larsson, which became something of a national liberation anthem when Nazi occupation ended in May 1945 - then with new lyrics by Finn Bo, Bias Bernhoft and Arild Feldborg.After the premiere in Oslo, and a music video with Oslo Fagott Choir and The Staff Band, broadcasted by Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) on Constitution Day during coronavirus lockdown in 2020, I was approached by many to write an instrumental version of the arrangement for concert band. This version is now available through Norsk Noteservice. Reid Gilje has made this instrumentation for Brass Band.

The fourth movement is a dramatic swordfight. In the fifth movement the pirates win at last.

Be aware so that the cup mute sound fits the flugelhorn as good as possible.The quarter notes played by horns and trombones at bar 18 have both a harmonic and rhythmic function.This arrangement is made with several cue notes for some instruments.In the score, there are some parts marked with optional. It was used as the test-piece for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain (1st Section) in 2023.The piece is in four parts:I. THE GREAT FIREII. AFTERMATHIII. VISIONIV. RENAISSANCEThe bells ring the alarm and, as the capital city is engulfed by flames, panic and desperation spread. As the fire burns out, we are left to contemplate the aftermath of the inferno. Enter Sir Christopher Wren. His vision and courage were some of the most influential forces in the rebuilding of London which rose to reclaim its place as one of the great cities of the world.
