    During an interval at the Eurovision Song Contest in 1994, Michael Flatley & the 'Riverdance' cast took the world by storm and continued to achieve worldwide success. Michael Flatley left 'Riverdance' with the dream of creating a show that was suitable for performances in arenas and not just traditional theatres – 'The Lord Of The Dance' was born. Using the traditional US shaker hymn 'The Lord of the Dance' as the shows main theme, Ronan Hardiman adapted the music to be bursting with life. This arrangement by Gavin Somerset is full of excitement and energy, arranged to ensure this effect is playable by most levels of bands. A real crowd pleaser & finale act that will have the audiences on their feet!

    Mexican Hat Dance - Traditional - Roger Webster

    The widely acclaimed Mexican Hat Dance became so popular that at one point it was declared the national folk dance of Mexico. Its popularity is attributed to the great Russian ballerina Anna Pavlova. After a visit to Mexico in 1930, she fell in love with the culture and spectacular costumes of the country, and decided to include the dance in her permanent repertoire. The ecstatic Mexican cultural authorities felt that such honour could only mean that the Hat Dance was indeed the most important dance in Mexico.Mexican Hat Dance was for many years inextricably linked to the charismatic trumpeter Rafael M?ndez, whose flamboyant soloistic style was the inspiration behind this arrangement, which is also available from Prima Vista Musikk with piano accompaniment.

    Symphonic Dance No.3

    Completed in 1940, the set of? Symphonic Dances was Sergei Rachmaninov's last composition. The work is fully representative of the composer’s late style with its curious, shifting harmonies, the almost Prokofiev-like grotesquerie of the outer movements and the focus on individual instrumental tone colours throughout.? Rachmaninov composed the Symphonic Dances four years after his Third Symphony, mostly at the Honeyman Estate, ‘Orchard Point’, in Centerport, New York, overlooking Long Island Sound. The three-movement work’s original name was Fantastic Dances, with movement titles of ‘Noon’, ‘Twilight’ and ‘Midnight’. When the composer wrote to the conductor Eugene Ormandy in late August, he said that the piece was finished and needed only to be orchestrated, but the manuscript for the full score actually bears completion dates of September and October 1940. It was premiered by Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra, to whom it is dedicated, on 3rd January, 1941. This arrangement is of the last dance and is a kind of struggle between the Dies Irae theme, representing Death, and a quotation from Rachmaninov’s own Vespers (also known as the All-night Vigil, 1915), representing Resurrection. The Resurrection theme proves victorious in the end as the composer actually wrote the word ‘Hallelujah’ at the relevant place the score (one bar after Fig. 16 in this arrangement).?     Prelude, Dance and March - Malcolm Arnold

    Malcolm Arnold is one Britain's best-loved composers. In 1948 he composed a very short suite for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain - entitled simply To Youth. Seven years later he took To Youth and made some fairly major revisions, including a complete new movement, and the Little Suite for Orchestra was born. The Little Suite for Orchestra follows a very similar pattern to the later suites for brass band, starting with a bold, strident Prelude, which strangely ends quietly before a lovely, lilting, Dance composed in 3/8 time. Finally a rollicking and militaristic March brings the suite to a conclusion. This arrangement for brass band by Robin Norman is sure tobecome a classic in the brass band repertoire.

    Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies

    The Sugar Plum Fairy needs no introduction as it is one of the most recognisable pieces of music. Tchaikovsky began writing his ballet The Nutcracker in 1891. It received its premiere in St. Petersburg, the following year. The Sugar Plum Fairy is the ruler of the Land of Sweets although she only dances in Act 2 of the work. This arrangement, retitled The Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairies , has the slightest of twists in that it features the four members of the bass section.
