£49.95Gypsy Dance (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Wiffin, Rob
Gypsy Dance was composed while the composer was living in Spain. He had been working with some gypsy musicians and was intrigued by the instinct and passion that they brought to their playing. The composer also had the opportunity to watch some modern flamenco dancing and wanted to capture some of the spirited essence of this art form. In writing the piece he used two main melodic ideas and rather than develop them, they are presented in different guises as the dance moves through various episodes and builds towards a fiery climax.

Dance On (Je me sens bien aupres de toi) - Adams, Murtagh, Murtagh & Stellman - Len Jenkins
"Dance On" is probably best remembered in the UK by two versions. One by the Shadows which went to Number 1 in the UK Singles chart and the other by Kathy Kirby which made number 11 in the 1963 UK charts. The other side of the Channel, in France, Petula Clark recorded the song in French ("Je me sens bien aupres de toi") and Italian ("Sto volentieri con te") which made the Top 5 of the French and Italian charts. She also recorded an English version for album release on the Canadian market. The infectious rhythm will get you tapping your feet or even getting up to dance. It's a real bopping number from the 60's, and well within the capabilities of most bands. Enjoy.

Based on the traditional Spanish carol 'Riu Riu Chiu', this exciting foot-tapping item was premiered at Butlins Mineworkers Championships in 2010. Recorded on Virtuosi GUS Band's CD 'Christmas Fantasia - The Music of Andrew Wainwright', it has since proved to be a popular concert item. Henk van Belcums used the festive and much loved song 'In Thee is Gladness', in this arrangement. Better known as 'Geest van hierboven' (Hymn 477) from the Songs for the Church (NL). A glorious fanfare opens the piece, which is then followed by a bright dance. The hymn is heard in the chorale section, in a fancy new setting, and the piece closes with a reprise of the opening fanfare.
