The first major Concert Work/Test Piece by Gavin Somerset for brass band takes the familiar tune, St. George's Windsor (Elvey) and gives us a highly enjoyable opus, full of music with which players & MDs can fully express themselves. Often sang to the harvest hymn, Come, Ye Thankful People Come, Its majesty and motifs make this an enjoyable piece to both play and listen to. The work's primary focus is on melody and music with all sections of the band involved in bringing this piece to life. At harvest time or any other, this is a great new feature work for the brass band repertoire. £29.50All By Myself - Eric Carmen - Gavin Somerset
This famous power ballad was composed by Eric Carmen in 1975. The verse of the song borrows heavily from the 2nd movement of Sergei Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No.2. At the time of composition, Carmen believed that the Rachmainoff work was copyright free and in the public domain. It was only after the record had been issued that his mistake came to light. Carmen quickly came to an agreement with Rachmaninoff's estate to legalise the song so as not to infringe copyright. Rachmaninoff is now also creditied as the co-writer of the work, even though he died 32 years before the song was written! This moving piece, covered by greats such as Celine Dion & Frank Sinatra, lends itself perfectly for brass band and would fit into any concert program.

After the success of Mary Popping in 1964, Disney once again had a hit on their hands seven years later with the release of 'Bedknobs & Broomsticks'. Set in 1940, the film told the story of Eglantine Price, a spinster who was learning the ways of witchcraft to help Britain with the War effort. Richard & Robert Sherman provided another excellent score, with memorable songs that now for the first time, are available for Brass Band. This toe-tapping new work features The Old Home Guard, The Age of Not Believing, Portabello Road and, The Beautiful Briny Sea (with added bubbles!). Audiences of all ages will appreciation this title and is a great addition to any concert programme. Whilst rehearsals are suspended due to Covid-19, we are making some parts available to download FREE for home use and practice, alongside a downloadable backing track to play along to. £24.95Lest We Forget - Christopher Bond
Lest We Forget is a phrase added as a final line at the end of the Ode of Remembrance, taken from Laurence Binyon's poem For the Fallen, first published in The Times newspaper in September 1914. Providing the title for this work for brass band, the piece aims to combine both the acoustic nature of the brass band medium alongside narrated passages and pre-recorded extracts to provide a moving tribute. The words originally spoken by Prime Minister Herbert Asquith in 1914 can be narrated in performance. However, a free audio download, manipulated to sound like a 1914 radio broadcast is available from Prima Vista. Lest We Forget received its premiere at The Sage, Gateshead, on November 17th 2014, performed by the Grimethorpe Colliery Band, conducted by Robert Childs. The work opened their winning Brass in Concert programme, and has since been performed by bands all over the world as a fitting tribute to the Great War.

Fantasia on a Flemish Sea Song (Bra) - Simon Van Hoecke
'Fantasia on a Flemish Sea Song' was commissioned by Jeroen Berwaerts and VLAMO for the gala concert of the European Brass Band Championships 2017. These took place in the Belgian seaside town of Ostend, which explains the choice to make a fantasy on the sailor's song "Al die willen te kap'ren varen". A first reference to the song can be found in a Ghent song collection from 1856 by E. de Coussemaker: "Chants populaires des Flamands de France". The fantasia is faithful to tradition composed in a free form with variation elements and allows the soloist to showcase virtuosity and narrative power.
