The Great Parade (Brass Band - Score and Parts)

This piece is intended to be a bright, sparkling concert march and features the spiritual 'I got a robe'. The quick tempo is to encourage a performance of sparkle and wit and, at the same time, to reflect the mood of celebration in the spiritual. The song was sung by slaves to encourage them to remember that, although they might be deprived of even basic items like robes in their present plight, one day, when they get to heaven, 'all God's children got a robe'.

The Witch of the Westmerlands (Score and Parts)

Arranged for the Leyland Band's 2010 Brass in Concert programme. This is a sumptuous, lyrical setting of Scottish folk singer-songwriter Archie Fischer's originally up-beat song, with solos for baritone and cornet. The words tell the story of an ancient knight wounded in battle and dying on the battlefield who is healed by a mysterious old lady appearing from across the moors and swiftly vanishing again.The original version was sung by, amongst others, Barbara Dickson who has said she is a big fan of Philip's sensitive arrangement.

Scherzo (Brass Band - Score and Parts)

This energetic music was originally the second movement of 'Concerto for Brass Band' and was commissioned by Brass Band Treize Etoiles from Switzerland. It provides the opportunity for a glittering bravura moment in a concert, or can be performed as an additional movement to 'Concertino for Brass Band', placed before the slow movement and thereby re-creating the original 'Concerto'.

Lake of the Moon (Brass Band - Score and Parts)

3rd Section Test Piece 2016 National Finals of the British Brass Band Championship.The travels of the Aztec people as they headed south through North America looking for a new home, acted as the inspiration for Lake of the Moon. The composition contains small fragments of Oriental music and South American rhythms and occasionally, Russian Cossacks seem to raise their heads. The journey from North to South is not without danger, which is represented by threatening sounds within the music. In the Adagio divoto the composer takes us along to the Texcoco Lake, which the Aztecs called the lake of the moon. It was written in 2010 for the Belfast Temple Music School and recalls a particularly impressive open-air meeting from the previous years school. The main theme heard is Onward, Christian soldiers while there is also reference to A mighty fortress is our God.
