£29.90Elizabeth Remembered (Brass Band) Debbie Wiseman arr. Wainwright & Greet
Released as a charity single in aid of The Queen's Commonwealth Trust, this sublime work was composed by Debbie Wiseman OBE and performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra in tribute to Queen Elizabeth II after her death in September 2022. This tender and contemplative piece was played many times during the BBC's live coverage of the ceremonies across ten days of national mourning; and the full three-minute piece was played at the end of the Queen's State funeral, following Kirsty Young's emotional final words, and accompanied by a poignant and beautiful montage of images from the events of the day. The piece is now available for brass bands through this arrangement by Andrew Wainwright and Glenn Greet, with permission kindly granted by Debbie Wiseman. Fanfares and Proclamations was originally written in 2015 by Steven Ponsford for the massed bands of the International Staff and Melbourne Staff Bands of The Salvation Army. This piece of music, suitable as a concert opener, makes use of the hymn tunes Miles Lane and Diadem, both of which are associated with the words 'All hail the power of Jesus name'. 2250: Prelude on 'Rhosymedre' (Ralph Vaughan Williams trs. Douglas Engle)The English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams' work Three Preludes (founded on Welsh Hymn Tunes) was published for the organ in 1920. This is a transcription of the second movement of that work. The words associated with the hymn tune are by Samuel Crossman, My song is love unknown (S.A.S.B. 149), and vividly depict the events of Holy Week. The music is gentle and solemn and would be appropriate for a Good Friday service or as a moment of repose in a concert. 2251: Hosanna Shuffle (Sam Creamer)The half-time shuffle groove is a popular feel developed by alternative rock/pop bands of the 1980s. It marries elements of rock and swing styles together to form a new and infectious feel - Hosannah Shuffle being written as a tribute to this fusion of musical styles. Contrary to a swing style, shuffle brings the pulse back onto the beat while maintaining the swung quaver rhythms to create a rock-type rhythmic drive. 2252: Everlasting Love (Keith Manners)This piece was written for the London North East Music School in 2004. The theme of the week was 'Making a stand for Christ', reminding the school that it only takes one person to make such a stand before others follow. The music starts with a lone Solo Cornet playing the melody of Graham Kendrick's song Such Love (S.A.S.B. 199). One by one, other parts join in with the theme.2253: Festival March (Michael Cooper)This piece represents the first published brass composition of Bandmaster Michael Cooper, who is the Bandmaster at Brisbane City Temple Corps. This imposing festival march features the tunes I want to be a soldier (T.B. 683), Lift up the banner (T.B. 90) and My Jesus, I love thee (T.B. 506). These tunes depict the idea that spiritual warfare is an essential component of one's faith, success of which is articulated in the final verse of My Jesus, I love thee (S.A.S.B. 878).

The Trumpets of the Angels was commissioned by the Fodens (Courtois) Band for their centenary concert at The Bridgewater Hall in 2000. It is based on a work written for the BBC Philharmonic and Huddersfield Choral Society in 1998, the starting point of which was a quotation from the Book of Revelation:and I saw the seven angels which stood before God; and to them were given seven trumpetsThus the idea behind the work is dramatic and I have tried to achieve this by the spatial deployment of seven solo trumpets around the band, four on-stage, the others off-stage. Six of the solo trumpets eventually join the band, but Trumpet 7 remains off-stage and, indeed, has the most dramatic and extended cadenza representing the words of the seventh angel ...and time shall be no more.The Trumpets of the Angels is a large-scale work, scored for seven solo trumpets, brass band, organ and percussion (deploying 'dark' instruments such as tam-tams, bass drum and two sets of timpani). The work opens with a four-note motif announced by off-stage horns and baritones and answered by fanfare figures on solo trumpets. In turn, each of the first four solo trumpets play cadenzas and then all four join together, independently playing their own music. The organ enters dramatically with its own cadenza, leading to the entry of solo trumpets 5 and 6 with music that is more urgent and rhythmic, describing the horsemen of the Apocalypse.The music reaches another climax, more intense this time, with the horns and baritones (now on-stage) again sounding the transformed motif, before subsiding into what might be described as a lament for humanity, slow music which builds from low to high, from soft to loud, with a melody that is both simple and poignant. At the climax, Trumpet 7 enters playing the opening four-note motif, dramatically extended to almost three octaves. This cadenza (to the partial accompaniment of tam-tams) introduces new material and foreshadows the ensuing scherzo which is fast and aggressive. All the best! These words expressing good fortune are often heard at occasions such as birthdays, or other changes life may bring. The music association in Rickenbach, Germany, wanted an upbeat concert work to celebrate its anniversary, as a kind of signature tune for the band. Otto M. schwarz had already composed several pieces in this genre, such as Fire and Ice, Last Call, and Funky Brass, to name but a few, and is constantly trying to transport new sounds and bold rhythmic ideas into the world of wind music. schwarz composes original works for wind band and his pieces are specifically tailored to exploit all the possibilities of this instrumentation.
