Sobre Las Olas - Juventino Rosas - Chris Gorman

This is possibly one of the best-known tunes around the world and is speculated to heard in more motion pictures than any other song. However, if you asked someone to "name that tune", then most would probably struggle. This classic Waltz has mistakenly in the past thought to be Viennese and has frequently thought to be the work of Johann Strauss II. The music is the most famous work of the composer and has long been associated in the US with fair ground rides and trapeze artists. This arrangement of the original work by Chris Gorman makes a perfect classical "Overture" work for your concert program.

Battle of Britain - Ron Goodwin - Gavin Somerset

From the 1969 motion picture comes the overture from the epic war film, The Battle of Britain. The film tells the story of the summer 1940 where the British RAF, outnumbered, yet with radar on their side, strategically defeated the Luftwaffe. Unusually for a film, this picture had two scores composed, one by Sir William Walton and the other by Ron Goodwin. Following a decision made by those in charge at United Artists, only one segment of Walton's score was used to feature during the epic air battle scene. The remainder of the film's music fell to Ron Goodwin's who gave us the now famous title "Aces High" and the main theme. This is a perfect addition to any band programme and one that audiences are sure to enjoy. To download the Solo Cornet part, please CLICK HERE . To download the Solo Horn part, please CLICK HERE . Quicksilver - Paul Lovatt-Cooper

The piece has been composed to demonstrate the full technical and sonorous capabilities that the E flat tuba has to offer.Quicksilver is divided into three sections: fast-slow-fast.The opening and concluding fast sections have been composed to stretch the performer to the limit and as the title suggests, the soloist needs very quick technical skills in order to successfully negotiate and perform the difficult opening and closing sections. The reflective middle section is a haunting slow melody that demonstrates the beautiful range and colour of the Tuba. With sonorous sounds from the Tuba this middle section fades to a mere whisper towards the end to guide us into the concluding fast section. The recapitulation of the opening follows, this time with transformations as the piece travels to its conclusion. This is a real 'tour de force' for the Tuba and it highlights the Tuba’s technical and sonorous excellence as a soloist instrument. This is an ideal addition to the Tuba soloist repertoire.
