Brass Monkey's Soloists - Martin Geovess
The main goal of any training band is to eventually see the players progress through the ranks and ultimately, be placed within the senior band. One of the most popular Euphonium solos in the Brass Band repertoire has now been transcribed and re-arranged for the Eb Instruments of the band. Originally arranged for Michelle Ibbotson on Soprano for Black Dyke, this transcription makes the solo perfect for Soprano Cornet, Tenor Horn or even Eb Bass. New percussion parts have also been added for this arrangement. The most popular movement from Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A is now available as a beautiful solo for Euphonium (with an optional Tenor Horn soloist part also included). The work was originally composed for Anton Stadler and composed in 1791. This arrangement tests the range of the soloist with some large intervals to contend with during the lyrical melodies, utilising the full range of the instrument. The tender accompaniments also require the band to be sympathetic to the soloist as band show off the controlled nature of their playing.

Originally arranged for Owen Farr, Hushabye Mountain is a well-loved and cherished song by the renowned Sherman Brothers from the 1968 motion picture, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. The work is undoubtedly one of the most popular songs from the show. The song acts as an idyllic lullaby, sang by Caracatus Potts as he sends his children to sleep. This arrangement, as a tenor horn solo by Fodens Band's Principal horn Jonathan Bates, features the tuned percussion throughout, and sets the melody initially over a music-box-like idea, before more dreamy and tranquil soundscapes enter.

In 2008, Adele released this version on her debut album which gained phenomenal success worldwide and featured appearances on the X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent, as well as featuring countless times in films and across TV networks. This arrangement of the gorgeous melody allows the soloist the freedom to express themselves with careful scoring beneath in this delicate work. Arranged as a Soprano Solo, this is possibly the most famous song that Cesar Franck every composed. This soothing piece has been recorded by everyone from Luciano Pavarotti to Charlotte Church.
