Ravel wrote his five short piano pieces entitled?Ma M?re l'Oye?(Mother Goose) for two young children, Mimie and Jean Godeski in 1910. The suite invites us to the enchanted world of childhood through these five atmospheric tales. The final part of Ravel's suite is a grand finale, although where Ravel got his inspiration for the fairy garden is unknown. Whatever its origin, it certainly is a delightful piece of music - slow in tempo, quiet to start, with rich harmonies and delicate solos, all leading to a tumultuous climax.?Duration: 3:00

After his death, she kept his embalmed heart with her for the rest of her life and it was buried alongside her when she died); Clanjamfrie (A drunken rabble meet in a remote Highland pub and proceed to talk nonsense and dance the night away). Samuel Coleridge-Taylor is a British composer, who, from a young age, showed talent on the violin and entered the Royal College of Music, studying with Charles Villers Standford. His music become so popular that his Hiawatha trilogy was the second most performed choral piece (joint with Mendelssohn's Elijah, and only beaten by Handel's Messiah) with choral societies up and down the British Isles. In fact, Hiawatha was arranged by Charles Godfrey as a test-piece for the 1902 National Brass Band Championship of Great Britain, held at Crystal Palace.Commissioned by the theatre impresario Herbert Beerbohm, Coleridge-Taylor composed incidental music for His Majesty's Theatre London production of the Shakespeare play, Othello, in the West End, in 1909. In 1912, the play opened to the public, with a suite of five movements put together soon afterwards. The Dance, arranged here by Rob Bushnell, makes a great concert opener.This arrangement is for the British-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass. This three movement suite for brass band was commissioned by the Solothurnischer Blasmusikverband (SOBV) in Switzerland for their 2009 Festival. The first movement, Energy, is appropriately lively in character. It is dominated by an agitated theme on trombones and cornets, driven by a percussion accompaniment, and complemented by pulsating counterpoint from the rest of the band. The second movement is called Repose and its opening melodious theme on cornets provides a welcome respite from the restlessness and verve of the opening movement. The lyrical nature of the music is sustained throughout. The finale, Suspense, opens with a theme containing more than a hint of foreboding which recurs several times. There are numerous abrupt changes of dynamics, and also a brightening of mood, before everything finishes in a blaze of sound.

The first movement consists of a sparkling Fanfare followed by a stately Theme which ends quietly. The transcription for brass band was first performed by the Brighouse & Rastrick Band,conductor David King, in the Bridgewater Hall Manchester on September 8 2012.
