Song of Hope - Peter Meechan

Song of Hope is dedicated to my good friend Ryan Anthony (principal trumpet with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra) and his charity, Cancer Blows - a foundation set up to raise awareness and money to further the research that has helped give their family a hope for a future following Ryan's diagnosis of Multiple MyelomaUpon hearing the middle movement (simply titled "Song") of my cornet concerto, Milestone, Ryan asked me if I could change the end from its current reflective ending to something more uplifting, and to title it Song of Hope, giving it much more meaning than I could have ever imagined. As well as a wind band scoring without soloist, Song of Hope exists with 1, 2 or 3 soloists, accompanied by either wind band, brass band, brass ensemble or symphony orchestra. For my friend Ryan. Each set comes with the soloist part for 1 soloist. Please download the alternative 2 or 3 soloist parts from the Miscellaneous tab.

North of England Folk Song Suite | trad. arr. Alwyn Green

An excellent concert piece of three traditional but contrasting songs, a love poem, a song of longing and loss, and a quick jaunty celebration of traditional life. The Sweet Lass of Richmond Hill from Yorkshire is a love ballad. The lass is Frances l'Anson, whose parents disapproved of her chosen love, and the couple eloped. The piece popularised the poetic phrase - A Rose without a Thorn. The Oak and the Ash from Lancashire is a traditional song comparing town and country life - a very popular theme in the 17th century. A girl from the North of England has moved to London to find a husband, but she is lonely in the city and wishes she could be home again - 'O the Oak and the Ash and the bonny Elum tree, they're all growing green in the North Country'The Keel Row from Northumberland is a traditional folk song evoking the life and work of the Keelmen of Newcastle-upon-Tyne, and with it's quick light beat it is used as the trot march for the Life Guards and the Royal Horse Artillery.InstrumentationSoprano, Solo, Repiano, 2nd and 3rd CornetsFlugelhornSolo, 1st and 2nd Tenor Horns1st and 2nd Baritone1st, 2nd and Bass TromboneEuphoniumEb and Bb BassesPercussion parts (2):1: Timpani, Glockenspiel, Cymbal, Sleigh Bells, Maracas2: Drum Kit, Gong, Side DrumISMN: 979-0-708127-02-4

Once Upon A Christmas Song - Peter Kay & Gary Barlow - Gavin Somerset

They just don’t write Christmas songs like they used to! Enter, Geraldine McQueen (AKA Peter Kay) who set to put all that right with her (his!) spoof Christmas song, ‘Once Upon A Christmas Song’, co-written by Gary Barlow. The proceeds from the single were donated to the NSPCC and at its peak, reached number 5 in the UK charts. The song’s memorable video and hook which tells of them singing Christmas songs ‘Over & Over & Over again’ made the melody an instant hit. Now your band can inject some humour into your festive concerts with this great little number. Is there a hidden Geraldine in your band?!

Moon Song, Sun Dance - Philip Sparke

Moon Song, Sun Dance was commissioned by flugel horn virtuoso, Claude Romailler, and premiered by him at the Swiss National Solo and Quartet Championships in April 2012.As the title implies, the work is in two contrasting movements, which can be performed separately or together.Moon Song opens with a flowing modal theme, which the soloist embellishes before the band takes centre stage. A central section brightens the mood with a new melody over the lightest of accompaniments; this is once again developed by the soloist until the original theme reappears, played by the band. This introduces a cadenza for the soloist which either closes the movement, or can be extended to link directly to the second movement.Sun Dance is a vivace 6/8 scherzo which opens with a flourish from the band. The soloist then introduces the main theme, which in turn is taken up by the band. A short bridge passage heralds a change of key and a new melody from the soloist. A brief central interlude then introduces a change of meter and recalls the main melody of Moon Song, before a recapitulation leads to a florid coda, which brings the work to a close.Solo part: difficulty 5

Dutch Christmas Song - Timothy Travis

'Dutch Christmas Song' is an arrangement of the old Dutch song 'Hoe leit dit Kindeke' (Vlaanderen, 1897). The tender, almost fragile words have been movingly honoured by Timothy Travis. The addition of percussion gives this lovely Christmas song a modern touch.

    Harry's Song - Peter Meechan

Harry’s Song is the second movement of Origins, a concerto for euphonium. Happy and reflective in nature, the main melody was written on the evening that my closest friend, Mark Bousie (a fine euphoniumist himself), and his wife Jayne, had their first child - Harry Bousie. It seemed only fitting that this song should be written for Harry in celebration.
