Originally Cornfield Rock was written by Jacob de Haan as a version for male choir. It was based on a text by William Shakespeare on a melody of Thomas Morley (It was a lover and his lass). The original melody however was abandoned completely and in its place Jacob de Haan created a new one in rock style. Elegy I 'Jealousy' has been named after John Donne's poem of the same name. This English poet (1572-1631) wrote an entire series of elegies, each with its own theme. Jealousy can trigger various emotions, ranging from disappointment, grief, or regret, to madness and anger. All these emotions have been incorporated into this composition. Jacob de Haan was inspired by three different works of art: a poem (the aforementioned poem by John Donne), a painting by the Norwegian painter Edvard Munch (Jealousy in the Garden) and an old French chanson about jealousy (Je ne l'ose dire) by the sixteenth-century French composer Pierre Certon. The music refers repeatedly to this chanson - sometimes through key notes from the melody that serve as the starting point for new, isolated themes and sometimes through quotations of the original version

2015 National Championships Regional Testpiece - 4th Section. Extra Score only. This set of variations was composed for the ISB's tour of Australia, New Zealand and Japan in 1995. Handel's majestic tune is associated with the great resurrection hymn 'Thine is the glory, risen, conquering Son' and melodic fragments of the tune form the basis of the four variations. The tune is heard in its entirety at the beginning and near the end and the piece finishes with a vigorous coda. Duration: 13:00

Completed in 1940, the set of?Symphonic Dances?was Sergei Rachmaninov's last composition. The work is fully representative of the composer's late style with its curious, shifting harmonies, the almost Prokofiev-like grotesquerie of the outer movements and the focus on individual instrumental tone colours throughout.?Rachmaninov composed the Symphonic Dances four years after his Third Symphony, mostly at the Honeyman Estate, 'Orchard Point', in Centerport, New York, overlooking Long Island Sound. The three-movement work's original name was Fantastic Dances, with movement titles of 'Noon', 'Twilight' and 'Midnight'. When the composer wrote to the conductor Eugene Ormandy in late August, he said that the piece was finished and needed only to be orchestrated, but the manuscript for the full score actually bears completion dates of September and October 1940. It was premiered by Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra, to whom it is dedicated, on 3rd January, 1941. This arrangement is of the last dance and is a kind of struggle between the?Dies Iraetheme, representing Death, and a quotation from Rachmaninov's own?Vespers?(also known as the All-night Vigil, 1915), representing Resurrection. The Resurrection theme proves victorious in the end as the composer actually wrote the word 'Hallelujah' at the relevant place the score (one bar after Fig. 16 in this arrangement).?Duration: 3:45

£29.50Bewitched - Howard Greenfield - Gavin Somerset
In 1964, the pilot to the new American sitcom 'Bewitched' was completed. The original screening used Frank Sinatra's 'Witchcraft' as the music for the opening titles, however, the production company did not want to pay the large fee to use this track and so, Greenfield & Keller were asked to compose an alternative. The foot-tapping swing piece they produced was reduced to an instrumental version with a light orchestra for the opening credits. However, the song has now been recorded several times. The most famous recording by Steve Lawrence was also featured in the film 'Bewitched' released in 2005. Since then, it has also appeared on the X-Factor a number of times. This fantastic swing item now comes arranged for brass band with the option of playing it at the Steve Lawrence song tempo, or the fast, big band instrumental tempo used in the TV Series. An optional, lower pitched part is also included between letters E-F for the cornet section & flugel to make the item more accessible to lower section bands. This item is a great swing number that audiences of all ages will recognize, a great piece for your new program & a must for every band looking to inject some life into their concerts.
