£183.20The Junction Point - John Brakstad
The railway between Oslo and Bergen, "Bergensbanen", was built in the years 1895 1909. This piece is dedicated to the railway labourers, the navvies, who did the hard work across the mountains. Most of the work, even in the tunnels, were done by hand. The official opening of the railway was in 1909, but there was also a celebration and a dynamite salute when the two teams of labourers and locomotives from East and West met in the mountains in October 1907. At this point, the rails were joined together with a joint in the national colours: "The Junction Point"!

I composed the song "Vidda" after I got my ultimate boy's dream fulfilled; To fly one of the Air Force's F-16 fighter jets! We flew out from Norwegian city Bodo on to the Finnmark plateau, where we flew so-called "low level" (at low altitude). It was such a great experience for me that I immediately wrote the song "Vidda" based on my experience of the trip. Here, I try to describe the meeting between the technical perfection of a machine that surpasses most of the various forces in it's escape through the magnificent scenery passing at great speed, and the pilot who is alone with both the adventure and responsibility. The drums which start the song is meant to describes theenergy in the power of the plane, while the lonely and kind of melancholy melody from the trumpet in the beginning describes the feelings of the pilot. As the song develop, we pass both the mountains and big beautiful plateaus with g-forces quivering body. Hopefully you will share some of my experiences through this song. Have a nice flight! This piecewas first performed directly in front of the Napoleon Museum in Arenenberg, Switzerland in Summer 2016.

East Coast Pictures, originally written for wind band, have now been transcribed by Phillip Littlemore, introducing these exciting programmatic pieces to a wider audience. These three short 'pictures' wereinspired by several visits by the composer to a small part of the USA's East Coast, an area that provides great extremes in the geography and the people. Shelter Island is a small island situated almost at the end of LongIsland, a few hours' drive east of New York. In the summer it becomes a crowded tourist trap, but in the winter it is gloriously deserted, and bravely faces the onslaught of the turbulent Atlantic, shrouded in sea mistsanddriving rain. In upstate New York lie the Catskill Mountains, an extraordinary combination of tranquillity and power, peace and majesty. Once seen they call you back again and again. New York ...or, to be precise, Manhattan.For anyone who is familiar with this bizarre and wonderful city, this 'picture' needs no explanation. For those not yet hooked, here is a foretaste of things to come.

This brass band transcription has been made by PhillipLittlemore and explores the sonorous and warm sounds of the brass band. The Catskills is the second movement of East Coast Pictures, originally written for wind band, and was commissioned in 1985 by the British Youth WindOrchestra with funds from National Westminster Bank plc. These three short 'pictures' were inspired by several visits by the composer to a small part of the USA's East Coast, an area that provides greatextremesin the geography and the people.
