When Santa Got Stuck Up The Chimney - Jimmy Grafton - Naomi Styles

The thought of a trombone player getting stuck up the chimney is sure to raise a few chuckles at your Christmas concerts - particularly if dressed up! This novelty item arranged by Naomi Styles, is a great choice for bands looking for a new, light-hearted solo during the festive season this year. A relaxed Cadenza for the soloist also encourages them to strain for the notes ??" as they're stuck up a chimney! This item would also work as a Euphonium or Baritone solo. A must for all bands this year that are looking to expand their festive repertoire.

Stai si, defenda! (Stand Up, Defend!) - Traditional

Stai si, defenda romontsch, tiu vegl lungatg (Stand up, defend your old Romansh language): This composition was named after a quotation from a poem by famous Romansh poet Giachen Casper Muoth. The arrangement deals with various well known songs for male choir such as A Trun sut igl ischi (In Trun under the malpe tree), Si sededesta Rezia (Wake up, land of Raetia), Il pur suveran (The independent farmer) or Il paun palus (The rosted bread). An atmospheric beginning over a pedal point uses quotations from these songs and leads eventually into a dark but warmly orchestrated section on Nossa viarva (Our language) by H. Erni. The piece ends, once more quoting A Trun sut igl ischi by J. Heim, a dedication to struggle for freedom and independence.

Cheer Up, Charlie - Leslie Bricusse & Anthony Newman - Gavin Somerset

This fresh new cornet solo comes from one of the greatest loved movies of all time. Featuring alongside musical hits such as Pure Imagination and The Candy Man, ‘Cheer Up, Charlie’ is probably one of the most underrated musical numbers from the film, Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory. In the film, the song is sung by Charlie’s mother, whilst young Charlie ponders the life he believes lay ahead for him. With a complex chord structure, the band parts remain interesting throughout whilst the lyrical solo line can shine in this beautiful, melodic work. A great ‘slow melody’ solo item and one that works on both concert and contest stages.*Free solo part available to download from our homepage at www.penninemusic.com
