The rhythmic dances of Kwela, the 'syncopated guitars' of Mbaqanga, the saxophones and trumpets with their supple African jazz sounds as well as the infectious and sometimes gripping choir singing. All these elements can be recognized when listening to the 'Soweto String Quartet', which in its turn inspired Peter Martin to write 'Soweto Swing'.

Jacob de Haan arranged the famous piece Amazing Grace for four-part variable ensemble, which may be complemented with percussion. With this intrumentation, it is possible to play the piece with almost any combination of instruments.The piece opens with the song theme, which after a modulation, flows into an intermezzo, characterized by a free interpretation of the theme. The interlude reaches a climax introducing the finale where the melody can be heard once again in all its beauty.

The music for this great film was written by different composers and the soundtrack was recorded by various well-known artists, such as the Bee Gees. Frank Stallone (the brother of actor and director Sylvester Stallone) was also involved. He wrote the title song Far from Over. The Advent hymn we all know today as O Come, O Come, Immanuel was arranged in its modern form by Thomas Helmore and published in Hymnal Noted in 1856. Both the words and melody, however, predate this version by centuries. The words are based on a 9th century antiphon and the tune, Veni Immanuel, is taken from a 15th century processional of French Franciscan nuns, part of the setting for the funeral hymn Libera Me. This arrangement aims to expand on the power and mystery of the original tune and will be most effective if the solo Cornet at the start and end of the piece can be placed away from the band, maybe at the back of the auditorium.
