Deus Invictus - God Unconquered (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Mackereth, Andrew

Deus Invictus draws its inspiration from well-known words from Romans 8: 38-39; 'For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any owers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, can separate us from the love of God'. The music reflects the confidence and certainty of the scripture text while, as in everyday life, trials and tests come along which are reflected in a sequence of musical skirmishes. The work introduces the 19th century hymn 'St Albinus' to a wider audience and also includes references to the tunes 'St Margaret' and 'Rachie'. A setting of the Easter Hymn, 'Christ the Lord is risen today!', is heard followed by a final reprise of 'St Albinus'.

Behold the Power of God - Christopher Bnod

Behold the Power of God (2010) was written for and premiered by the Cornwall Youth Brass Band in dedication to their Musical Advisor at the time; the late Cornish composer Goff Richards who later described the work as 'a remarkable piece of writing'. The work's title, while implying a religious meaning, actually references Goff's name, with his full name Godfrey translating as 'God-peace' and Richards meaning 'Power'. Two energetic outer sections fall either side of a more lyrical middle section featuring the solo cornet. The perfect opening item at any concert.

Overture On God Save The Queen - Jonathan Bates

Composer Jonathan Bates describes his Overture on God Save the Queen as, "a messed up take on the UK national anthem!" The work takes the well-known melody and goes as wildly different from the original as possible.Much of the music is written in a deep ethereal funk in 13/16, before a heavy, grungy half-time feel section featuring the euphonium and baritone, with the tune still dominating the harmonic structure of the accompaniment. With great scope for choreography the work is extremely clever, entertaining, and proved the perfect vehicle to open both Flowers Band's 2014 Brass in Concert programme, and their 2015 Butlins Mineworker's Championship winnning programme.

God Put a Smile Upon Your Face

'God Put a Smile Upon Your Face' was written by all members of the band Coldplay for their second studio album 'A Rush of Blood to the Head'. Coldplay vocalist Chris Martin said: "The song came out of playing live and wanting to have something with a bit more bounce". The chart was originally released in 2003 to critical aclaim. In 2007 Mark Ronson covered the song on his album 'Version' - it is this version this arrangement is based upon. The following arrangement was devised as a concert opener - written as such to allow different sections of the band to make their way to the stage one at a time. The suggested stage entry directions for this arrangement are: Percussion > Basses > Trombones > Horns & Baritones > Cornets & Euphonium. Kit and percussion parts are written as a guide - please feel free to add and subtract as the MD sees fit. DUE TO COPYRIGHT LAW THIS WORK IS NOT AVAILABLE IN AUSTRALIA OR NEW ZEALAND
