£32.55March - Helping Hands (Rob Bushnell) Brass Band
Helping Hands was written for the British Bandsman March Composition Contest, entered into category 2 (marches for 3rd/4th section bands). The piece is loosely programmatic in nature: The introductio is fanfare-like, announcing the date of the next Whit Friday Contests and the bands' anticipation of and preparation for the event. The first section is the march of the volunteers, as they descend upon the many venues, ready to run the contests. The second section (bars 35 to 52) sees the contests start. The bands strike up, march, finish and go from place to place, whilst the volunteers manage them, the audiences, and all manner of issues and problems thrown at them. The third section (bars 53 to 69) represents the bad weather which has, at times, presented itself on that particular Friday. But everyone carries on (possibly the sun comes out) and we enjoy the day. The trio uses the hymn St. Vincent by Sigismund Neukomm: St. Vincent de Paul is the patron saint of charities and volunteering, hence its use here. The piece is influenced by marches that are commonly heard during the Whit Friday March Contests, using motifs, rhythms and harmonic progressions (sparingly) throughout the piece. March-card sized parts included, with alternatives for horns in F and lower brass in bass clef. Fanfares and Proclamations was originally written in 2015 by Steven Ponsford for the massed bands of the International Staff and Melbourne Staff Bands of The Salvation Army. This piece of music, suitable as a concert opener, makes use of the hymn tunes Miles Lane and Diadem, both of which are associated with the words 'All hail the power of Jesus name'. £43.00Blue Bombazine (Eb Bass Solo with Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Johns, Terry
The word Bombazine is derived from the obsolete French word Bombasin. Largely made in the Norwich area, Bombazine is a twilled fabric made of silk used mainly in dress making and popular in England in the reign of Elizabeth I. The image and feel of warm, smooth, opulent silk is aptly suited to a solo feature for tuba. Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs and the RAF Music Service commissioned Blue Bombazine for solo tuba and brass in 2014, for Senior Aircraftman Jonathan Gawn and the RAF Central Band. It was first performed at The Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, on the 11th April 2015 at the British Festival of Wind Bands. The music is written in the jazz idiom with a testing solo part. It is available with brass band accompaniment or for ten brass with tuba solo. Duration: 5.00. COMPOSER: Charles StanfordARRANGER: Neil LockTo celebrate the planned re-opening of St. Mary's Church, Liss, 2020In 1909, Charles Villiers Stanford composed the chant to which the last psalm in the book, Psalm 150, is now usually sung. This is a free arrangement of that tune for brass band, which can be used either as a stand-alone piece or as an encore, particularly at the end of a concert in a church. I use some of Stanford's original harmonies, but most of the chords are my own.At the beginning and end, imagine the band playing at one end of a cathedral. After the first, very loud phrase, we hear the sound reflected back from the far end. The fast main section is divided into six "verses" as follows:Praise him in the cornets and trumpets;Praise him in the horns and baritones;Praise him in the deepest basses,And praise him in the trombones;Praise him in the loud percussion,And in the euphoniums.This piece was first played in public as part of the Liss Band's first formal post-COVID concert, in St. Mary's Church, Liss on July 16th, 2022.Suitable for most bandsLM469ISMN : 9790570004690
