Humble Hero (Solo for Instrument in Eb or F with Piano) Fendall Hill

This beautiful and poignant tenor horn solo was written by Fendall Hill in tribute to Ken Bradley, one of Australia's best-known, well-loved, and talented brass musicians who sadly passed away in 2022. The work was also a finalist in the BrookWright International Brass Band Composition Competition 2022. It has here been arranged with piano accompaniment for soloist in Eb or F. L'Heure Exquise (Solo for Eb Instrument with Piano) Hahn arr. David Robb

Venezuelan-born French composer, Reynaldo Hahn (1874-1947) is fondly remembered for his huge contribution to melodies - a popular form of French Art Song. L'Heure Exquise ('The Exquisite Hour') was composed as part of his 7 Chansons grises between 1887-1890. For this set of songs, Hahn used text from the poet Paul Verlaine. Originally set for soprano and piano, L'Heure Exquise speaks of the 'Exquisite Hour' where night falls and all becomes peaceful. There is mention of the gleaming white moon that reflects in the pool of water and how the shine of the moon bounces off the natural surroundings. The softness of the piano accompaniment leaves room for the soloist to make the most of the delicate melodic line. A Wedding Jig (Solo for Bb Instrument with Piano) Jonathan Mead

A Wedding Jig, by Welsh composer Jonathan Mead, was commissioned by renowned euphonium soloist Micah Dominic Parsons for his sister's wedding in February 2022. The solo begins with a beautiful lyrical arrangement of the Irish tune Molly Mallone (Cockles and Mussels). The second half of the solo is in the style of a jig and uses an original tune written by the composer himself. Concerto No.1 - 'Reverence' (F Horn with Piano) Sean Brown

This horn concerto by American composer Sean Brown However was commissioned by Anna Edwards and the Saratoga Orchestra of Whidbey Island for the composer himself to perform. The composer writes: 'I made sure to write the solo horn part in a way that really challenged me but wasn't nearly impossible to play. And, since I love the sound of the orchestra so much, I made sure that this piece isn't just about the horn soloist. I intended for the horn and orchestra to take the journey together, side by side, as two old friends would. I was careful to write and arrange the orchestra so that balance between the soloist and orchestra wouldn't be a problem. There are times where the orchestra parts have more of an equal role with the soloist, a role which never should be forgotten. Important melodic lines in the orchestra should be brought out, and the soloist should be willing to play loud when the music really calls for it.' This version is for horn soloist in F and piano.
