    Flow my Tears

This is a Trombone solo by Adam DJ Taylor 'Flow My Tears', also known as Lachrimae Pavane is a lute song (an ayre) by John Dowland (1562-1626). The song and its melody became very well-known and influential at the time of it's release and became the composers signature song - literally as well as metaphorically: he would often sign his name 'Jo. Dowland de Lachrimae" The following arrangement was produced as the soloist piece for Wingates Band's appearance at the 2015 Brass in Concert competition at the Sage Gatesehead. The theme of the programme presented was 'Alice in Wonderland' and the following arrangement was used to represent 'The Room of Tears'. The other pieces presented were:'Mad March Hare's March and the Well Crazy TeaParty' (available late 2017), 'Piano Concerto Number 2 by Rachmaninov' and 'Dreaming' by Schumann (available from Cantatio Music).

Main Theme from Piano Concerto Number 2

The second movement of Rachmaninoff's second piano concerto is arguably one of his most endearingly popular pieces. Written between 1900 and 1901, it marks a turning point in the composer's life - for years he was riddled with self-doubt and suffering with depression, the second piano concerto is believed to be the breaking of his writers block. The concerto was dedicated to Nikolai Dahl, a physician who had done much to restore Rachmaninoff's self-confidence. in 1975, Eric Carmen adapted the second movement for his ballad: "All by Myself". The following arrangement was produced for Wingates Band's appearance at the 2015 Brass in Concert competition at the Sage Gatesehead. The theme of the programme presented was 'Alice in Wonderland' and the following arrangement was used to represent 'The Mock Turtle'. The other pieces presented were:'Mad March Hare's March and the Well Crazy TeaParty' (available late 2017), 'Piano Concerto Number 2 by Rachmaninov' and 'Dreaming' by Schumann (available from Cantatio Music).

    Thunk! - Lucy Pankhurst

Inspired by rock-funk fusion, Thunk! is based on funk riffs and layers thereby experimenting with a style not freely associated with the brass band. Utilising the full range of the instrument, the soloist is presented with a devilishly difficult and mischievous part to play, with optional ad lib. parts allowing each soloist to be as wild and inventive as they dare! The work offers an intense and exciting stylistic challenge to band and soloist alike.Thunk! was premiered at the Stroud Festival 2007 by Lucy Pankhurst with Wingates Band.

    BBA March - Roy Newsome

This is a concert march with a difference! The whole of the first section is in minor mode – unusual and intended to depict the trials and tribulations which inspired the original (and now successfully completed) Africa-based projects of Brass Band Aid. The Trio then goes into the major and begins with a Prayer motif that starts with the notes B-B-A. Following a rather turbulent episode (a reminder that there is still much to do), the Prayer theme returns triumphantly, reflecting optimism for the future.Roy Newsome composed this work in support of a charitable project, known in 2005 as Brass Band Aid. The organisation called for original compositions to be included in a follow-up CD release - Into Africato help raise funds for projects in Adet, Africa, and to build awareness of theMake Poverty History campaign. African Adventure was featured on the CD with a recording by the Wingates Band. Now that the original BBA projects are complete, funds raised by the titles we publish from theBrass Band Aidseries continue to support other music-related projects on a regular basis.

    Dreamer - Lucy Pankhurst

Originally written for the solo horn player of the Wingates Band, Dreamer, composed by Lucy Pankhurst, is a lovely, wistfully calm solo for Eb Tenor Horn Solo and brass band in this aptly entitled piece. It exudes tranquility, filling the air with positive sounds, sympathetic accompaniment, and musical shapes in the scoring which enable the soloist and band to demonstrate how the beauty of music is shown through quiet control.A very emotive piece with lots of musicality to enjoy – a real ‘ahhhhhh moment’ item for your concert programme.
