£33.63Love Divine (Blaenwern) (Brass Band) William Rowlands arr. Kenneth Downie
This delightful setting for brass band by Kenneth Downie is based on the much loved hymn Love Divine, All Loves Excelling, alternatively known as Blaenwern. An optional organ part which will enhance the last verse is included. Kenneth Downie writes: 'It has been a delight to work on this wonderful Welsh hymn tune called Blaenwern, a tune which perfectly suits the majestic words by Charles Wesley, 'Love divine, all loves excelling'. This hymn is all about a big, expansive, all-embracing God, and I have tried to capture this aspect of the words. The rising interval in the introduction is an important feature in developing the notion of a 'big God', and its reappearance near the end is intended to be very significant. The hymn is full of memorable phrases which will hopefully inspire players, singers and conductors as they contemplate the text in preparation for any performance. 'Joy of Heaven, to earth come down', 'Enter every longing heart', 'Finish then thy new creation', and then the last amazing four lines: 'Changed from glory into glory, Till in Heaven we take our place, Till we cast our crowns before thee, Lost in wonder, love and praise'. The addition of the organ in the last verse, by special request of Peggy and Scott Thomas who commissioned the arrangement, should add to the majesty of the music, but of course, it is not fundamental to any performance. COMPOSER: Alex McGeeSkomer Island, situated off the Pembrokeshire coast is a haven for a wide variety of marine life, notably sea birds.Puffins, gannets and shearwaters congregate in vast numbers over the cliffs while on land the Skomer Vole is unique to the island.At sea, porpoise, grey seals and dolphins abound, often putting on spectacular displays for visitors lucky enough to see them at play.This work tries to encapsulate some of the ebullience that the wildlife displays. As the work begins picture yourself as a bird, perhaps one of the kestrels that nest there hovering over the teeming mass of sea birds below, seeing puffins bobbing along, gannets diving for fish and gulls soaring on the breeze.Next, with a change of time signature, we dive below the surface, swimming along side playful seals and dolphins before leaping from the water full of the joys of life.However, the music takes us to a more brutal reality, the plight of such island idylls across the world. The music encourages you to reflect on the fragility of nature, and on the damage we are doing to these precious environments.Following this reflection, we are once again uplifted, with the composer taking inspiration from natures ability to overcome all we have thrown in her way and survive.Note to the conductor re percussionThe glockenspiel part is optional and can be played in place of the vibraphone where one is unavailable.The timpanist will require four drums for the performance and adequate time is given for changes throughout.Suitable for Most Bands - Duration 4'.00" (Approx.)

This fantasy tells the story of Oregon, one of Americas north-western states. Traveling by train on the Northern Pacific Railroad, the listener is taken through the fascinating Oregon landscape. Indians, cowboys, golddiggers and hooded wagons will file past on this adventurous journey. The piece has some similarities with a soundtrack of a movie. Various melodies, which could be the main themes of a movie, pass the review.The piece begins in a slow movement, introducing the first theme in minor. Then we hear in the following fast movement the trombones imitate the train, whistling the steam-flute. We hear the characteristic minor theme again, but now in differentvariants(also in major). The rythmic structure of 'western' stile and rock succeed each other. This is leading to the slow movement, where the signals of horns and trumpets introduce a wonderful vocal melody. After this characteristic melody, the fast movement appears shortly again, the trombones whistling the steam-flute again (now in major). We hear also some musical elements, that plays a part in the following Presto. Barchanges, jazzy chords, interesting rhytmic patterns (with bongo) and an original theme are the characteristics of this Presto. After this, the horns announce the last section of the piece. Interesting is the fact that we hear in this Allegro section a variant of the vocal melody in the slow movement. Also the Presto theme returns shortly, followed by the Allargando, which is a grand characteristic end of a soundtrack. The movie of our travelling fantasy has come to an end.

1363: Festival March - Collect the harvest (Anders Beijer)This march is a call to tell others about the salvation we have received and bring people to Jesus. Jesus has bought us with his blood, and we now belong to him and stand under his protection, surrounded by his love and care. After brief references to the melody Bringing in the sheaves (S.A.S.B. 58) (also appearing later in the work in full) and an original melody, we hear the familiar tune Saviour, like a shepherd. This music should be performed with great joy and enthusiasm.1364: O come, Immanuel (Steve Kellner)The text of this beautiful Advent hymn (C.C. 62) dates to the 8th century and its chant-like tune to the 15th century. While the text alludes to Israel's captivity in Babylon and the coming Messiah, it in fact refers to the believer's anticipation of Jesus' second coming. The original chant melody was call and response, so the opening motif serves as the call, returning throughout the arrangement.1365: Our Consecration (Marcus Venables)This arrangement uses the tune St Margaret (T.B. 427) to the beloved hymn by George Matheson, O love that wilt not let me go (S.A.S.B. 616), which highlights the powerful and enduring nature of God's love. The use of the melodic fragment on the word 'go' serves as a subtle question mark, inviting the listener to reflect on the human qualities that may cause doubt in the steadfastness of God's love for us. However, as the piece ends, there is a sense of peace and assurance that we can truly rely on the never-ending love of God in our lives. This powerful and emotive arrangement will leave the listener feeling uplifted and encouraged by the knowledge that they are held securely in the arms of God's love.1366: March - The bell ringer (David Rowsell)The title of this march refers to someone who stands by the iconic Salvation Army Christmas kettle and receives donations from passers-by. They ring a bell to attract attention and subtly invite people to give a donation in support of The Salvation Army's work. This march was written as a tribute to the many volunteers worldwide who support this campaign each year. The music features the choruses from two Christmas carols, Sweet chiming Christmas bells (C.C. 83) and Sweet chiming bells (C.C. 82).

The theme adopted for the celebrations was 'Building hope for tomorrow', which was the inspiration for this piece. The tunes featured are 'Will your anchor hold?' and 'Building up the temple'.No. 1253 Carol Setting - O little town of Bethlehem (Noel Jones)An arrangement of the popular carol, 'O little town of Bethlehem', using the tune 'Forest Green'.No. 1254 Vox Dilecti (Kenneth Downie)Vox Dilecti means 'beautiful voice'. This is an arrangement of J.B.Dykes' melody, complementing words by Horatius Bonar.

£115.60Vidda - Ole Edvard Antonsen - Ole Edvard Antonsen
I composed the song "Vidda" after I got my ultimate boy's dream fulfilled; To fly one of the Air Force's F-16 fighter jets! We flew out from Norwegian city Bodo on to the Finnmark plateau, where we flew so-called "low level" (at low altitude). It was such a great experience for me that I immediately wrote the song "Vidda" based on my experience of the trip. Here, I try to describe the meeting between the technical perfection of a machine that surpasses most of the various forces in it's escape through the magnificent scenery passing at great speed, and the pilot who is alone with both the adventure and responsibility. The drums which start the song is meant to describes theenergy in the power of the plane, while the lonely and kind of melancholy melody from the trumpet in the beginning describes the feelings of the pilot. As the song develop, we pass both the mountains and big beautiful plateaus with g-forces quivering body. Hopefully you will share some of my experiences through this song. Have a nice flight! In 'Latin Dance Party' William Vean takes us along to sunny, seemingly care-free places. Happy faces, catchy music, delicious drinks are images that come to mind when listening to this 'feel good' music which will either get you in a dreamy mood or make you want to step out onto the dance floor. To start we hear the first dance of Cuban origin 'Cha Cha Cha', cheerful, romantic, playful dance . The Cha Cha Cha is probably the most popular dance. Then we have the slower 'Bossa Nova' (new wave), a dance developed from the Samba rhythms with strong syncopation. We end with the 'Samba'. Samba is party. The samba is a mix of polka, Cuban habanera and Africanrhythms, born around 1910 in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, and every year the leading dance during the exuberant carnival.
