£20.00Christmas Concerto
DescriptionThis arrangement of Corelli's famous "Christmas Concerto" features soprano cornet, two solo cornets and solo euphonium. Arcangelo Corelli was one of the first masters of the baroque period, a skilled violinist much admired by fellow composers like Bach and Handel. He was born in Fusignano, near Ferrara in Northern Italy in 1653. He studied in nearby Bologna where he became an extremely competent violinist. By the 1670s he was working in Rome and building a reputation as a composer at the important and powerful Papal court. By the late 1600s he was widely famous all over Europe, regularly invited to important courts and palaces. Although he had a huge influence on the virtuoso writing of later composers, his writing for string instruments was designed to be playable by average, often amateur players.His set of Concerti Grossi known as Opus 6 was not published in his lifetime. We think they were written around 1690, and they were first published in Amsterdam in 1714, a year after Corelli's death. A 'Concerto Grosso' is a concerto for a group of soloists (the "concertino" group) accompanied by an ensemble (the "ripieno" group) and was an important form in the Baroque era. Handel's very successful examples were modelled on Corelli's example. Number 8 from the Opus 6 set was commissioned by the Venetian Cardinal Pietro Ottoboni and bears the inscriptionFatto per la notte di Natale('made for the night of Christmas'). It was used as part of the soundtrack for the 2003 film 'Master and Commander: The Far Side of the World".Performance Notes.In this arrangement the 'Concertino' group are the soprano cornet, solo cornets 1 & 2 and the solo euphonium. If logistics allow they should stand either at the front of or some distance away from the band. There is no percussion in this arrangement. (Nicholas King)The traditional English Carol, 'While shepherds watched' and the spiritual carol 'Rise up, shepherd!' are combined in a bright swing arrangement by Deputy Songsters Leader Nicholas King, who is also a member of the Music Ministries Unit.No.420 Good King Wenceslas (Paul Sharman)The lyrics of the well-known carol 'Good King Wenceslas' were written by John Mason Neale in the 1850s and the tune used comes from a collection of medieval Latin songs, Piae Cantiones, published in 1582. 1359: Festival March - Coastal Celebration (Sam Creamer)Coastal Celebration was commissioned in 2019 by Nambour Salvation Army Band for the Corps' 125th anniversary celebrations. Nambour was the birthplace of The Salvation Army's work on the Beautiful Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Firring with this theme are subtle tributes to iconic Sunshine Coast landmarks, referenced with small phrases of popular secular melodies intertwined with the main tunes What a faithful God (S.A.S.B. 378) and All through the years (S.A.S.B. 826).1360: He's always been faithful (Craig Woodland)This meditative selection is an arrangement of the song by American singer and record producer Sara, Groves, He's always been faithful. The words express the joy and thankfulness in having a relationship with Jesus and knowing his presence in life. The melody and motifs of the traditional hymn, Great is thy faithfulness (S.A.S.B. 26), are heard throughout.1361: Christ's living water (Dean Jones)Christ's sacrificial love has been beautifully portrayed through the imagery of water in many songs, none more so that the skilfully crafted words we find in the chorus of I know a fount (S.A.S.B. 197), written by Oliver Cooke. To enhance the sentiments expressed, the pure sounds derived from Handel's Water Music fit perfectly in terms of music and imagery.1362: March - Fear Not! (Avelan Ntsiete)The Salvation Army continues to proclaim its music ministry in all corners of the world and, with this item under review, we introduce a new composer, originally from Congo Brazzaville, Central Africa. Avelan Ntsiete is currently a Bandsman at the Lilas Corps in Paris but has previously served in the Congo Brazzaville Territorial Band. This march, in traditional format, was written for an evangelistic campaign in Kindamba, where civil war has brought upheaval to the area and uncertainty for the local Salvationists. The composer was part of a small brass group which travelled for over 24 hours by truck and on foot to reach Kindamba and bring encouragement to the Salvationists within that community.

Brand's song, Sing we many years of blessing.No. 427 A mighty fortress is our God (George Twitchen)The words and melody to this great hymn were written by Martin Luther and are based on PSalm 46. It has been called 'The battle hymn of the Reformation' for the effect it had on increasing support for the Reformer's cause. The words and melody are so closely associated with its author, that the first lines are inscribed on Luther's monument at Wittenberg.No. 428 Song Arrangement - I'd rather have Jesus (Peter Kim)Bandmaster Peter Kim from the USA Central Territory presents an arrangement of the popular gospel song, 'I'd rather have Jesus than silver or gold.' The lyrics were written by Rhea F. Miller in 1922 and have proved popular with many Christian denominations ever since.No. 429 Bound for Glory (Ian Feltwell)The song 'I'm a soldier bound for glory' was first published in 1922, is a great Salvation Army song of testimony and still remains a firm favourite today.

No.1219 March Medley - Heavenward (William Gordon)A variety of songs are used in this up-tempo march medley which potrays the celebration of a life looking forward to an eternity in Heaven. The tunes used are 'When we all get to Heaven', 'When the roll is called up yonder' and 'We shall win'.No.1220 Garden of my heart (Terry Camsey)The publication of this music is, in a small part, a fitting tribute to Major Terry Camsey who was Promoted to Glory in June 2011. The title is taken from the refrain from a much-loved Sidney Cox song; 'Jesus, Jesus, Lily of the valley, Bloom in all thy beauty in the garden of my heart'.No.1221 My life, my all (Andrew Mackereth)This selection attempts to emphasise the personal nature of Christian commitment hence the emphasis given to the words 'my' and 'I' in the songs chosen. The tunes 'Rockingham', 'All I have I am bringing to thee' and 'At thy feet I bow adoring' are included.No.1222 Tenor Horn Solo - You love me (Brian Willetts arr. Paul Sharman)This arrangement was made at the request of David Lynch, Solo Horn player in The International Staff Band. Originally published in April 1993, the song speaks of the fact that, despite the wonder and vastness of God's creation, he still loves each one of us individually.

£64.99Oregon (Brass Band - Score and Parts)
This fantasy tells the story of Oregon, one of America's north-western states. Traveling by train on the Northern Pacific Railroad, the listener is taken through the fascinating Oregon landscape. Indians, cowboys, golddiggers and hooded wagons will file past on this adventurous journey. The piece has some similarities with a soundtrack of a movie. Various melodies, which could be the main themes of a movie, pass the review.The piece begins in a slow movement, introducing the first theme in minor. Then we hear in the following fast movement the trombones imitate the train, whistling the steam-flute. We hear the characteristic minor theme again, but now in different variants (also in major). The rhythmic structure of "western" stile and rock succeed each other. This is leading to the slow movement, where the signals of horns and trumpets introduce a wonderful vocal melody. After this characteristic melody, the fast movement appears shortly again, the trombones whistling the steam-flute again (now in major). We hear also some musical elements, that plays a part in the following Presto. Barchanges, jazzy chords, interesting rhythmic patterns (with bongo) and an original theme are the characteristics of this Presto. After this, the horns announce the last section of the piece. Interesting is the fact that we hear in this Allegro section a variant of the vocal melody in the slow movement. Also the Presto theme returns shortly, followed by the Allargando, which is a grand characteristic end of a soundtrack. The movie of our travelling fantasy has come to an end.Duration: 9:10
