Monterosi is a village in the Italian province of Viterbo in the Lazio region. This work has been dedicated to the Accademia Musicale Francigena in Monterosi, to celebrate the occasion of the third "Tommaso Albani", a national competition for wind orchestras. The first performance of Monterosi was conducted by the composer, who had been invited for the third time to be a jury member and guest conductor. It is a solemn piece, with lyrical tendencies, which demonstrates the glorious, full sound of the band.

To some, the tragic story of the Penlee lifeboat, Solomon Browne, would need no introduction, and to some the pain felt is still very much a reality. The composer, born just a few weeks before that fateful night on the19th December 1981, has created this work as a musical homage to the bravery of the souls who lost their lives and has dedicated it to their memory. Penlee was commissioned by the Cornwall Youth BrassBand using funds bequeathed by Michael Pickett. The first performance was given by the Cornish Youth Brass Band, conducted by Ian Porthouse, at St. Michael's Church, Newquay, on 30th December 2008.Penleehas been voted into the Classic FM Hall of Fame 2011 at No.106. Not only is it the first time a brass work has been featured in the Hall of Fame, but it was also thehighest new entry. The work has subsequently been recorded by the Leyland Band, conducted by Jason Katsikaris, on the CD entitled Penlee.Brass Band Grade 4: Advanced Youth and 3rd Section Duration: 13 minutes

Fanitullen is a lively, beautiful 'Sl?tt', i.e. an old Norwegian melody which is played on a traditional 'Hardingfele' (Hardanger fiddle).Because of its violent rhythm and exciting character, playing a Fanitullen for a long time was considered improper. It was believed that a person playing this melody would come under the influence of the devil. Therefore, Fanitullen could be regarded as a kind of Rock'n Roll from the 18th century.Tom Brevik's adaptation is based on a composition for piano by Ole Olsen (1850-1927) Fanitullen is een levendige, mooie 'Sl?tt', een oude Noorse melodie die gespeeld word op een traditionele 'Hardingfele' (Hardanger viool).Door de heftigeritmiek en het opzwepende karakter, werd het spelen van een Fanitullen gedurende lange tijd als niet kies beschouwd. In 'Ding Dong it's Christmas' Scottish composer Bruce Fraser makes a sport of misleading his audience time and again. The title already indicates that this piece has been based on the well-known Carol 'Ding Dong Merrily on High', even if the melody makes a somewhat halting start. When it gathers pace, however, also due to the percussion section, suddenly various other carols may be recognized. Peace and quiet reign in the middle part, during which we can enjoy Bach's charming 'O Jesulein suss'. 'Ding Dong it's Christmas' ends in the same way it began, even if more and more Carols put in an appearance. Merry Christmas!

'Mixed Bag' stands midway between a collection and a hotchpotch. It is a colourful compilation of four completely different pieces, each with its own specific character. The first part is called 'Tanguillo' : as its name suggests, this Spanish dance is related to the Tango. In the next part, 'Maybe next time ....' a repeated bass line (Passacaglia) can be heard, first solo, but thereafter gradually the other instruments join in. The third part forms a huge contrast did the former part have a Baroque atmosphere, 'Rock Hard' seems to have come directly from the Rock 'n Roll era, reminding us of stars such as Bill Haley and Elvis Presley. The finale is acheerful, inciting movement called 'Gypsy Dance'.

This descriptive work for brass band by Joe Galuszka depicts the horrors of war. War is all around us. Every day, another life is lost. Myanmar, Sudan, Ethiopia, Ukraine, Colombia, Afghanistan, Somalia, Syria and Yemen. As time goes on, more and more countries are brought to the end of what is a diplomatic struggle - in where war seems to be the only option. 'War! Terror! Panic! captures the tumultuous and relentless nature of war. With driving rhythms, aggressive brass fanfares, and thundering percussion, the listener is immersed in the chaos of battle. Dissonance and clashing harmonies depict the discord that pervades war and takes us on a journey through the terror and panic that comes with the brutality of conflict. Remembrance (For Those That We Have Lost) provides a poignant and reflective interlude, allowing the audience to contemplate the human cost of war. Mournful melodies and expressive solos for trombone, euphonium and glockenspiel, convey the depth of sorrow and loss, serving as a powerful reminder of the toll war takes on individuals and communities. The final movement, Hymn for Peace and Hope is a testament to the enduring human spirit and the yearning for harmony - dissonance and conflict gradually give way to consonance and resolution. We celebrate the human capacity for unity and the triumph of peace over strife, as we imagine a world at piece. £36.93A Fugal Overture (Brass Band) Gustav Holst arr. Rob Bushnell
A Fugal Overture was written in 1922 by Gustav Holst. It was first performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden on 14 May 1923 and was used as an opening work to Holst's one-act opera The Perfect Fool. It received its concert premiere on 11 October 1923 at one of Henry Wood's Queen's Hall Promenade Concerts. It is an early example of neoclassicism and was influenced by the counterpoint of J. S. Bach, despite its unconventional use of the fugal process. Holst began writing the piece in the summer of 1922, having hoped to develop it into a ballet. It is divided into three sections, the fugal subject with its distinct 3+3+2 pattern, a slower section with solos at the end, and a third section where the subject returns. Although reviews of the piece were mixed at the time of its premiere, the likes of Adrian Boult have said it was "an invigorating work that could effectively start any [...] concert". In more recent years, it has been compared to John Adam's A Short Ride in a Fast Machine. This arrangement is for the British-style brass band, with alternative parts for horns in F and bass-clef lower brass.
