Dave Brubeck, the American jazz pianist, has contributed a huge amount of material to the genre, responsible for many titles now so often referred to as 'jazz standards'. The longest trip we make is to the Far East. Japan, China, Tibet,... all countries with an enormous cultural background and history. Percussion is very important here to give a rich dimension to this Japanese 'Black Bamboo' theme. Tam-tam, Chinese cymbals, Tibetan gong and a kododrum (if not possible, large floor tom) together with marimba and glockenspiel are used all the time in a carefulway. A solo cornet presents the main theme that is answered by the whole lower brass section. While this theme develops now and then the sounds of the impressive 'dung' is heard. (dung is the Tibetan very large trumpet-like instrument with loud and very deep sounds) In a quicker tempo Eb bass, euphonium and solo cornet start with the theme and even the counter theme. The whole group joins the party but everything ends very silently with mute.

It's performed by folk-rock band "Hekla Stalstrenga" who released their first album "Hekla Stalstrenga" in 2008. This album was nominated for "Spellemansprisen" (the Norwegian equivalent to Grammy) in the folk music / traditional music category."Song at Winter Solstice" was released as single record in 2013.To the conductor:In this band arrangement you can choose whether to perform with or without repetition of the melody. If you want to use a song soloist, play the piece as is with all the verses that belong. As instrumental you can choose to go straight in the 2nd house to make the song shorter.

Wild Flower Variations - Traditional - Len Jenkins
The theme for this delightful piece is believed to be Spanish and was originally heard in a Mediterranean church over 30 years ago, sung by the local choir accompanied by local musicians. The theme is not stated separately, and the piece begins directly with the First Variation. The following Variations are subtly different from the First, yet both retain the essential warmth of the Mediterranean sun in their harmonic progression. A short Coda rounds off this relaxing and escapist siesta. Time to wake up...The piece is scored to be playable by most Third or Fourth Section bands.

Anyone Who Had A Heart - Burt Bacharach and Hal David - Len Jenkins
"Anyone Who Had A Heart" is a song written by Burt Bacharach (music) and Hal David (lyrics) originally for Dionne Warwick in 1963. However, in the UK, Ireland and New Zealand, the cover version by Cilla Black was, and is still, the best loved. Championed by her friends The Beatles, she began her career as a singer in 1963, and her singles "Anyone Who Had A Heart" and "You're My World" both reached number one in the UK in 1964. From the first line, the song has a certain frisson: "Anyone who ever loved, could look at me, and know that I love you." Sadly, Cilla passed away on 1 August 2015 so this is our tribute to a well-loved lady and singer. Our objective has been to interpret the style of the original performance by Cilla, and whilst the time signatures may not be familiar, experience has shown that these are easier to read and play than the alternative using triplets.
