Felix Mendelssohn's stunning Choral Cantata has here been adapted to the brass band by Edward Mylechreest. A setting of Martin Luther's sacred words, this short piece is a staple of the choral canon and is widely regarded as a choral masterpiece. The hymn tune melody repeats three times throughout the piece (first from the trombones, then the horns, followed by a full band chorale), each time an emploring prayer and statement of the text. This arrangement can also be used for accompaniment to the original Chorale, remaining in the original Eb major key signature. Knowledge of the original piece will be of great benefit to the performer and conductor alike. This upbeat, foot-tapping march by Welsh composer Jonathan Mead features the two well known Welsh tunes of Aberystwyth and God Bless The Prince of Wales. Aberystwyth is set as a big bold bass solo and careful attention will need to be paid to make sure that it sounds clean and together. God Bless The Prince of Wales first appears as a traditional hymn tune, before returning in a more vibrant, lively style, with florid scalic passages for the solo cornets and euphoniums. The march was written with St David's Day in mind, although will be an appropriate addition to concert programme throughout the year as either an opener or finisher. ABOUT THIS PIECE: Cantatio are pleased to release this arrangement of Sunset by Paul Mottram from his album Symphonic Minimalism. Originally recorded by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at Abbey Road, this piece is often heard on TV and radio, most recently on Ken Bruce's show on BBC Radio 2 following the death of Queen Elizabeth II. Paul says of this piece: "I very loosely modelled the track on some of the compositions of John Barry - a simple lyrical melodic style with an almost regal feel and beautiful orchestral sound.
