This piece was written as a full length virtuosic solo based on an earlier work called Humble Hero, which is also available from BrookWright Music. It is an extension of that work and still dedicated to Ken Bradley, designed to provide a reflection of his technical skills and a platform to emulate musicianship for which he was renowned. Ken Bradley (1962 - 2022) was one of Australia's best-known, well-loved, and talented brass musicians. The solo is also available from this website with piano accompaniment. Love Eternal was arranged by Gavin Lamplough for trombone virtuoso Isobel Daws to perform in a special concert with the Melbourne Staff Band to honour its Bandmaster Ken Waterworth, on the occasion of his retirement after 30 years of leading the band. The arranger uses Jarod Cooper's popular contemporary worship song King of Kings, Majesty as the basis for the work and the piece seeks to provide a vehicle for the rich timbres of the trombone to be enjoyed by the listener. This arrangement by Thomas Hulten of the beloved spiritual Down by the Riverside was born out of a special request from a Danish friend of the arranger - a bass trombonist - who wanted a solo piece to perform alongside his pianist wife at their local Salvation Army corps. Long familiar to traditional jazz players, the tune is often passed around informally, shaped by the spirit of the moment. But here, at last, it has found its way onto the page. Set in a relaxed swing style, this version invites performers to settle into a steady, unhurried groove.
