Good Night Suite is written for beginning band and suitable for the youngest musicians. The level of difficulty is at lowest grade and the rhythms are equal in all wind parts. The register on each instrument is also customized to each part. Some easy solos appears in some sections and in Mvt. 4 there are different rhythm in the melody and bass parts. The level of difficulty is the same for all five movements. The movements may of course be played as single pieces. When all movements are mastered it's possible to play the suite as a kind of fairytale with simple dramaturgy or choreography. Maybe the whole band can be dressed in their pajamas?

COMPOSER: Mike Moran & Freddie MercuryARRANGER: David Beal"Barcelona" is a single released by Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury and operatic soprano Montserrat Caballe. A part of their collaborative album Barcelona, it also appeared on Queen's Greatest Hits III. The song reflects Mercury's love of opera with his high notes and Caballe's operatic vocals, backed by a full orchestra. Originally released in 1987, it was one of the biggest hits of Mercury's solo career, reaching number eight in the UK singles chart. After Mercury's death in 1991, it was featured at the 1992 Summer Olympics. The single was re-issued on 20 July 1992, after which the track climbed even higher, peaking at number two in the UK, the Netherlands and New Zealand. In 2004, BBC Radio 2 listed Barcelona at number 41 in its Sold On Song Top 100.Scored here for British Brass Band.

Vinter og sne - Naess-Jansen - Haakon Esplo
"Winter and Snow" was written by Sigurd Jansen and Alfred Naess and were recorded and released on single by Norwegian singer Wenche Myhre in 1966. The single was released in connection with the Nordic World Championships held in Oslo that year. The well-known song was also recorded in new version in 2011 by Wenche Myhre and included on her album "66".

For this brooding piece the composer has used the following storyline. "A sad elderly man sits alone in a bar whilst an accordionist plays a slowtango. A beautiful woman walks in wearing a single black pearl necklace and proceeds to dance with the old man. Gradually the music becomesmore and more spirited and the dance faster as the old man becomes youthful again. With a passionate kiss he passes out in thegirl's arms and when he awakens he is back in the bar alone save for the accordionist. As he contemplates his dream he notices a single black pearlleft behind on the bar. The sombre mood is lightened in the middle section by a deliberately trite and stylised trumpet duet, but we soon returnto the opening material for a slow fade-out"

Laughter In The Rain - Sedaka & Cody - Len Jenkins
In America, this was Neil Sedaka's comeback single. Whilst he had 11 Top-40 hits from 1960-1963, he could not score a hit after the British Invasion of the 60's. His fortunes were such in America that this song was at first released only in England, where it went to No. 15. However, whilst recording with 10cc in London, Sedaka reconnected with his friend Elton John who offered to put out a Sedaka single in America under his own record label, Rocket Records. Since "Laughter In The Rain" was already a hit in the UK, that was the choice, and anything with Elton John's name on it was sure to get some spins. So, later in 1974, "Laughter" was released on Rocket Records with liner notes and endorsements by Elton, and the song took off, becoming his second million-seller 12 years after his first, which was "Breaking Up Is Hard To Do."

£59.77The Glory of Colour (Brass Band) Ivan G. Andrews
This work by Ivan Andrews was inspired by the large Baptistry window of the new Coventry Cathedral and will be suitable both as a contest or concert work. The window was conceIved and designed by Basil Spence and was intended to be a worldwide experience. When installed it was claimed to be "the single largest window in stained glass that hitherto had ever been contemplated and brought into existance." The stained glass design was done by artist John Piper and when completed was described by Bishop Bardsley as a "triumphant expression of faith, a faith encapsulated in the 'glory of colour'".* Hence the title for the piece. The composer writes: 'When thinking of this music the traditional tune now often called Monks Gate kept coming to me. The words often sung to this tune were penned by John Bunyan and each stansa ends with the words "To be a pilgrim". The Cathedral in Coventry, although a Christian Church, is designed to bring all faiths together in Unity - there is a "Unity Chapel" opposite the Baptistry window so the concept of pilgrimage seemed perfectly apt to me. The music is therefore designed to reflect many colours as there are many expressions of faith. Single fragments of the Monks Gate tune are used as a basis for what might be deemed 'variations'. The tune is heard in full towards the end of the piece and then the music rises to a climax of bright brilliant white light. The colours of the window are darker on the outer edges but they all circulate towards the brilliant white at the centre - representing the source of all faith.' Pentacle (Score & Parts) - Graham Cole
Pentacle was selected as a test piece for the National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain, First Section regional competition in 2009. The Pentacle is an image of an upright five-pointed star drawn inside a circle with a single continuous line making the five points equally spaced. Traditionally, each of the five angles has been attributed to the five metaphysical elements of the ancients. These provide the titles for the five sections of the piece: Earth (representing stability and physical endurance), Wind (representing intelligence and the arts), Fire (representing courage and daring), Water (representing emotions and intuition) and Quintessence (which represents the All and the Divine spirit).Brass Band Grades 1 & 2: Novice and Learner bands.Duration: 13 minutes.
