Where there's Muck - Peter Martin

The title is a popular saying in England. It means that's where the money is. "Where there's muck, there's power" is such a popular expression in the United Kingdom. The saying inspired Peter Martin to compose a highly attractive piece in four parts, consisting of contemporary dances that can also be performed separately. Let's dance!

Ding Dong it's Christmas - Bruce Fraser

In 'Ding Dong it's Christmas' Scottish composer Bruce Fraser makes a sport of misleading his audience time and again. The title already indicates that this piece has been based on the well-known Carol 'Ding Dong Merrily on High', even if the melody makes a somewhat halting start. When it gathers pace, however, also due to the percussion section, suddenly various other carols may be recognized. Peace and quiet reign in the middle part, during which we can enjoy Bach's charming 'O Jesulein suss'. 'Ding Dong it's Christmas' ends in the same way it began, even if more and more Carols put in an appearance. Merry Christmas!

They are Coming - John Emerson Blackstone

There are people who are capable of planning well. They live their lives in a well-structured manner and know exactly what they have to do. On the other hand, there are also people who are the exact opposite: they want to do too many things at once and are often somewhat absent-minded, which occasionally results in frantic situations. The outcome of one such situation is 'They are coming'. John Emerson Blackstone had been working on a new composition for some time when he received a telephone call from his editor, who told him that the deadline was approaching rapidly, even worse, that it would expire at the end of that same day and that he would drop by in person to fetch thecomposition! Blackstone set to work in a frenzy and completed the last details. When his editor arrived, the piece was finished ..... and got its definitive title: 'They are coming'.

The Triumph of Time - Peter Graham

Like The Essence of Time, The Triumph of Time is a set of variations for band which follow roughly the same moods and characteristics of its older relative. Many years ago as I took up a university post and embarked on postgraduate compositionalstudy, my friend and colleague Ron Holz offered me some sage advice; to explore and assimilate unfamiliar compositional concepts and to develop and strengthen my technique, but never to stop writing tunes! This piece is dedicated to Dr Ronald W. Holzin gratitude.Peter Graham, June 2015

    Imaginations - Andrew Pearce

iMaginations is a bright and colourful overture with a strong memorable theme in a fast meter that is shared across the sections of the band. It drives forward relentlessly with great vigour and vitality, culminating in a soaring legato rendition of the main theme, first heard in trombones and trumpets. I have aimed this piece at more advanced bands who will find it an exciting ride. '

    Zourfaroka - Marc Jeanbourquin

One morning everything went wrong in Zourfaroka. In this forest where thousands of magical beings live, everything sparkles and shines and is full of life. But not this morning, because the terrible troll Potugor has returned. This is the opening text for the musical fairy tale written by Lise Jeanbourquin and set to music by her husband Marc Jeanbourquin. The first part is a warlike setting, showing the preparations of Kirielo and the inhabitants of Zourfaroka for the battle with Potugor. On the way they meet the fairy Xeriole, and this meeting is put to music in the second part. The soloist's role in the first few bars is left to the choice of the conductor. And as in many fairy tales, with fairies, gnomes, and amazing magical creatures, the piece ends in the third part with everyone coming together in song and dance.

    Eventyr-Suite - Øystein Sjøvaag Heimdal

Fairytale-Suite is an original work for beginning band. The name of the movements are taken from well-known themes from Norwegian fairytales. The music may not tell a story itselv, but it may be a good base for an exciting fairytale on a concert? This piece gives challenging parts to every player and it's a good choice to showcase the entire band. To the conductor: It's several doublings of the voices. This makes it possible to omit certain instruments or parts. The Drum Set part may be split and played by several players.

Ragnarok Main Title - Magnus Torkehagen Beite - Reid Gilje

This is the main theme from the movie "Gaten Ragnarock" (2013) superbly composed by Norwegian composer Magnus Beite. The music is narrative with long, melodic lines combined with a rhythmic drive. This arrangement tries to capture the symphonic expression from the original orchestral score. There are several unison lines. Intonation, balance and phrasing are important to make these sounding as good as possible. Clear articulation in the rhythmic passages are also important. The piece is very evocative and may fit very well into any concert program.
