£32.00The Beacons (Score only) - Ray Steadman-Allen
For centuries hilltop beacon fires blazed across the land signals of important happenings or warnings of invasion. This music tells no specific story but the titles of the four thematically related sections are a guide to the idea: The Beacons; Far Horizons; The Invaders; Celebration. The first movement has something of the character of the march and the fanfare; spirited and tightly driving, it promises most of the thematic material of the work. The second is largelt tranquil and is thinly scores with solo passages. The third has the most dramatic potential; its energy and conflict subsides to a lament and a tolling bell before a vigorous rounding off. Appropriately, the fourth movement is in a merry-making mood, and the jubilant music concludes with fragment statements of the main themes. The Beacons was first performed by IMI Yorkshire Imperial Band (James Scott) at the 'Concert of the Century', celebrating the Centenary of the British Bandsman, at the Free Trade Hall, Manchester, on 5 September 1987. There are three parts: Approaching the Great Saint-Bernard Pass depicting snowy mountains and the determined march of the NapoleonicArmy: The Emperor Napoleon a noble and heroic theme, accompanied by stately fanfares with an exotic flavour: and Onwards, to the Empire! describing Napoleon's relentless drive to expand the French empire across the globe at. This piecewas first performed directly in front of the Napoleon Museum in Arenenberg, Switzerland in Summer 2016.

DURATION: 4 minutes. DIFFICULTY: 2nd+. The Fall of Icarus was composed for the Lions Youth Brass Band as the finale to their runers-up set at the 2018 National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. The music is inspired by the steady rise towards the sun of the Greek mythological character Icarus, as his impending fate becomes closer and closer. This work was designed as a more widely accesible alternative to the much loved March from the Pines of Rome by Respighi.

Pride of the Wolverines | Sousa arr.William Hill
'The Pride of the Wolverines' is a superb but lesser known march from the pen of JP Sousa which deserves to be better known.The Wolverine is a stocky and muscular carnivore, closely resembling a small bear, which can be found in remote reaches of the Northern Hemisphere. When the New York Staff Band toured England in 1960 they featured much new music written for them by Erik Leidzen, including this march. The trio section is in the unusual key (brass band pitch) of Db major, a major third away from the opening key of F major, rather than the more predictable subdominant of Bb major. This presents a technical and mental challenge to the players but provides a particularly brilliant sonority when played in tune!

£29.95Gallant Sister, The - Jonathan Bates
DURATION: 5 minutes. DIFFICULTY: 4th+. The Gallant Sister was commissioned by the Spennymoor Town Band, and the title is a reference to the local wartime community hero Kate Maxey, who was awarded the Royal Red Cross award for gallantry and distinguished service in the field after being seriously injured in March 1918 whilst working as a Sister in France.
