The Fall of Icarus - Jonathan Bates

DURATION: 4 minutes. DIFFICULTY: 2nd+. The Fall of Icarus was composed for the Lions Youth Brass Band as the finale to their runers-up set at the 2018 National Youth Brass Band Championships of Great Britain. The music is inspired by the steady rise towards the sun of the Greek mythological character Icarus, as his impending fate becomes closer and closer. This work was designed as a more widely accesible alternative to the much loved March from the Pines of Rome by Respighi.

March from Pines of Rome (N4) & Prelude (N1), The - Respighi, O.

THIS IS A NEW EDITION. The arranger has made some very small revisions and corrections and is confident that this new presentation will be very welcome. It can now be ordered on this site as usual. The manuscript version of the March has now been withdrawn.'Pines of the Villa Borghese' - Children are at play in the pine groves of Villa Borghese; they dance round in circles. They play at soldiers, marching and fighting, excited by their own cries, they come and go in swarms like swallows in the evening. The March - 'Pines of the Appian Way' - It's a misty dawn on the Appian Way, solitary pine trees guarding the landscape. The muffled, marching tread of footsteps becomes louder and louder. Trumpets sound and, in the brilliance of the newly-risen sun, a consular army marches forth along The Sacred Way, finally ascending in triumph to the Capitol to celebrate "A Triumph."Other products you may be interested in...TitleComposer/AuthorCategory/ScoringPricePines of Rome (Complete Version), TheRespighi, O.82.00Polotsvian Dances (complete)Borodin, A.45.00Procession to the MinisterWagner, R.44.50Roman Festivals (complete)Respighi, O.62.50

Procession to the Minister - Wagner, R.

'Procession' was premired at the Royal Albert Hall Gala Concert in October 1987, to immediate success. It fits together music from two separate parts of Act 2 of Lohengrin into a single stretch. That it has become the most used finale in modern brass band history, is beyond any doubt, with only the March from the Pines of Rome mounting any real challenge.... although perhaps latterly 'Entry of the Gods into Valhalla' shows every sign of making a run on the post.Brass Band World's TOP CHOICE as a Finale, most played, most enjoyed by audiences and players alike. Again Grades 2 and 3 because it is hard... but everyone wants to play it!

Huntingtower - Ottorino Respighi - Alastair Wheeler

Whilst best known in the Brass Band world for The Pines of Rome, Respighi wrote Huntingtower in 1932 for Concert (wind) Band for a special concert in memory of John Philip Sousa, who had passed away on March 6 of that year. The work was premiered by the US Army Band. With only around 6 weeks to compose the work, his inspiration for the piece came from a visit to Huntingtower Castle in Scotland. A standard in the wind & military band repetoire, the work is available for Brass Band and is a great alternative to some of the traditional Overtures.
