The original melody (known as Nicaea) was composed by John Bacchus Dykes' especially for Reginald Heber's renowned hymn of praise and became universally popular when it was included in Hymns Ancient and Modern in 1861. Composed by Paul Raphael, Explorers on the Moon, the sequel to his 2017 work Destination Moon, was composed in 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the 1969 Moon Landings. It is inspired by the Belgian author Herge and his most famous creation, Tintin. The music uses Herge's story from 1950 almost twenty years prior to the first ever moon landing - following Tintin and his fellow adventurers as they become the first humans on the Moon. This fantastic piece is split into three parts, titled 'Space', 'Nightmare Land' and 'The Journey Home' and is one of the most spectacular contest pieces in recent years.

"Vasen" ("commotion", "fuss", "ado") is a Swedish acoustic band consisting of three outstanding instrumentalists playing viola, 12-string guitar and nyckelharpa ("key-harp"). They have been touring together since 1989. The song "Gudda" is from a CD they released in 2017, and it is composed by guitar-player Roger Tallroth. The title refers to the song being (originally) in G-major and in "udda" (Swedish for "odd") time-signatures. Please, maintain a singing, legato style throughout.

In Memoriam: For the Fallen was commissioned by Bolsover District Council for the Bolsover Brass Summer School 2014. It is a setting for narrator and band of Laurence Binyon's (1869-1943) poem, For the Fallen, which was first published in The Times in September 1914. The poem is known world-wide as the famous fourth stanza (They shall grow not old...) has become a regular part of Remembrance Day and ANZAC Day services. In Memoriam: For the Fallen is a musical accompaniment to the poem, shadowing the mood of each stanza.

'Toccata Festiva' was commissioned in 1994 by the Dutch Brass Band Championships. The wind band version was made a year later by the composer himself. Historically speaking, the toccata is considered to be one of the first independent instrumental forms for keyboard instruments. Originally the toccata was typically more or less improvised, later this musical form was given a more regulated structure. Both elements are used in the 'Toccata Festiva': on the one hand the different themes are developed freely, on the other, the piece has an orderly structure. It is in a three part form (quick-slow-quick) and includes both strong rhythmical figures and broad melodic lines. Partof the composition is written in a more or less archaic tone idiom, referring to the period from which the toccata form originates (16th century).
