It is written inScottish dialectand thebeaverrefers to a gentleman's hat in an era when all high quality men's hats were made offeltedbeaverfur. When first my brave Johnnie lad came to this town,He had a blue bonnet that wanted the crown,But now he has gotten a hat and a featherHey, brave Johnnie lad, cock up your beaver!Cock up your beaver, and cock it fu' sprush! We'll over the border and gie them a brush:There's somebody there we'll teach better behaviourHey, brave Johnnie lad, cock up your beaver!"Cock Up Your Beaver" is a tongue-in-cheek traditional arrangement published by Larch Music. Despite its modern-sounding innuendo, the piece is actually based on a classic 1791 poem by Robert Burns set to an old Scottish tune. The historical title simply means to "cock" or tip your beaver-skin top hat at a jaunty, stylish angle."LM010ISMN - 9790570000104
