£30.00Drive the Cold Winter Away - Traditional
This carol first appeared in print in the early seventeenth century, being found in various notable collections; Playford's "The English Dancing Master", the "Samuel Pepys Collection" and the "Roxburghe Collection". Whilst the music is thought to have come from an earlier era the dance tune ("When Phoebus Did Rest"), the words were first printed as a broadside c.1625. As a carol, the lyrics discuss various seasonal festivities during 'Christmastide'. Alternative titles for the same carol include "In Praise of Christmas" and "All Hail to the Days".

I'm The Urban Spaceman - Neil Innes - Len Jenkins
Made famous by the Bonzo Dog Doo-Dah Band, "I'm the Urban Spaceman" was written by Neil Innes who won an Ivor Novello Award in 1968 for the song. The record which was released in the same year and went to No5 in the hit-parade, was produced by Sir Paul McCartney and Gus Dudgeon. It has been used to accompany various humorous sketches including one by Monty Python, and lends itself to anarchic behaviour by the band. The Four Temperaments was commissioned by the Yorkshire Imperial Band and first performed by them in 1983. The suite depicts the four traditional temperaments, as Nielsen had done in his second symphony: Sanguine, Phlegmatic, Melancholic, and Choleric, though each movement stands up as absolute music. The composer has said of The Four Temperaments: 'The Melancholic wants to be broad, warm and grand, without haste or hysteria. As for the rest, it should go like a bomb.' It does! Duration: 22:00

Tchaikovsky's extremely popular ballet, The Nutcracker, was first performed in December 1892. Earlier in the same year the composer extracted several movements from the ballet to form a concert suite. The first performance of the suite was conducted by the composer and the suite was immediately received with huge enthusiasm.This arrangement was originally made for the GUS Band while the arranger was its Music Director.

Sunday in the Park opens with an accompanied cadenza for the soloist, which leads to a gentle rhythmic melody with a laid-back feel. This is taken up by the band but the soloist sparks a change of mood by introducing a faster light rock interlude. This reaches a climax, at which point the music unwinds until the original mood returns. A variation on the original melody leads to a short cadenza from the soloist, which brings the work to a peaceful close.

September 2017 ReleaseAll the Nations (Roger Trigg)Originally written for the Melbourne Staff Band 125th Anniversary, the central theme of the music is from Psalm 86 verse 9. The tune is derived from 'Lobe den herren' before a setting of the tune 'St Peter' in a more reflective manner is presented. An invitation to worship as a group of Gods people is presented in the contemporary song 'Come, now is the time to worship' before the original material is presented and the tune 'St Peter' is heard in a full, exciting conclusion.

This work was commissioned for the Camberwell Citadel Salvation Army Band's 1982 tour of the USA, Great Britain and Europe. The title relates to Jesus' promise that he will return as Lord and King enternal. Christians, in faith, await his Second Coming and their faith is reflected in the strong tune of the first movement.The featured tune is that of St Magnus with which the words associated are 'The Lord will come and not be slow.'
