Hobson's Brass - Malcolm Arnold
Hobson's Brass is Malcolm Arnold's score to David Lean's 1954 film, Hobson's Choice, was one of three collaborations between the composer and director. It's a story of Henry Hobson, played by Charles Laughtan who runs a successful bootmaker's shop in nineteenth-century Salford. A widower with a weakness for the pub, he tries forcefully to rule the lives of his three unruly daughters.Brass Band Grade 5: 1st Section.Duration 10 minutes.

DURATION: 4 minutes. DIFFICULTY: Moderate. 'As The World Falls Apart' was composed for David Maxted as part of the programme for his BMus Final Recital at the RNCM in May 2017. The work was composed in a time of real political and social divide, with chaos only ever seeming minutes away, and the base of the piece is one of serenity and traniquility amongst the bedlam which is occurring around us all. Originally, the work was planned to be a totally free unaccompanied work for solo horn, however I wanted to make use of the vast space the RNCM concert hall can offer with the surround-sound speakers and decided to utilise a short sound effect track to enhance the feeling of chaos as the music reaches it's peak in dynamic and intensity. COMPOSER: Mike Moran & Freddie MercuryARRANGER: David Beal"Barcelona" is a single released by Queen vocalist Freddie Mercury and operatic soprano Montserrat Caballe. A part of their collaborative album Barcelona, it also appeared on Queen's Greatest Hits III. The song reflects Mercury's love of opera with his high notes and Caballe's operatic vocals, backed by a full orchestra. Originally released in 1987, it was one of the biggest hits of Mercury's solo career, reaching number eight in the UK singles chart. After Mercury's death in 1991, it was featured at the 1992 Summer Olympics. The single was re-issued on 20 July 1992, after which the track climbed even higher, peaking at number two in the UK, the Netherlands and New Zealand. In 2004, BBC Radio 2 listed Barcelona at number 41 in its Sold On Song Top 100.Scored here for British Brass Band.
