Prelude, Dance and March - Malcolm Arnold - Robin Norman

Malcolm Arnold is one Britain's best-loved composers. In 1948 he composed a very short suite for the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain - entitled simply To Youth. Seven years later he took To Youth and made some fairly major revisions, including a complete new movement, and the Little Suite for Orchestra was born. The Little Suite for Orchestra follows a very similar pattern to the later suites for brass band, starting with a bold, strident Prelude, which strangely ends quietly before a lovely, lilting, Dance composed in 3/8 time. Finally a rollicking and militaristic March brings the suite to a conclusion. This arrangement for brass band by Robin Norman is sure to become a classic in the brass band repertoire.

    Artemis

Artemis is the Greek goddess of hunting and forests. In western art she is often pictured with deer, lions or bears with a bow in her hand. The tempo of this march is stately and the themes are "concertante" in character making Artemis best suited as a concert march rather than a street march. Technically this march is not too difficult although at times some dexterous fingering is necessary. The trio melody is especially lyrical and offers various sections within the band the possibility to show off their skill in playing the expressive melody. This excellent new concert march is sure to become a classic and be performed time and time again.

The Liberty Bell - John Philip Sousa

The Liberty Bell is an iconic symbol of American Independence. The actual bell was commissioned from the London firm, now known as, Whitechapel Bell Foundry in 1752 and was cast with the inscription:"Proclaim LIBERTY throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof"The bell was placed originally in the steeple of Independence Hall in Pennsylvania and historically cracked the first time it was rung.Interest in the bell heightened across America in 1847 when it was claimed the bell was rung on the 4th July 1776 upon hearing the Second Continental Congress's vote for Independence. Despite the fact that this is undocumented and it is highly unlikely that the bell was actually struck on this date as it was in storage, the story was widely accepted and the bell was exhibited for many years at various expositions and patriotic gatherings across the United States.John Philip Sousa originally composed the march as part of an operetta score called, "The Devils Deputy" which, due to a lack of financing, was never completed. Sousa's manager George Hinton however, encouraged him to publish some of the music from the operetta as concert items, including the title-less march. While Sousa and his manager were attending the 1893 Columbian Exposition in Chicago, they watched a patriotic spectacle called "America" where the Liberty Bell was presented to the audience. Sousa's manager suggested that this would be a suitable title for Sousa's new march, to which Sousa agreed. This classic American march has been superbly arranged here for brass band by Dr. Robert Childs.

Postman Pat - Bryan Daly - Len Jenkins

The original music for the phenomenally successful Postman Pat series was composed by Bryan Daly (who sadly died in January 2012) and included not only the well-known theme tune "Postman Pat & His Black and White Cat", but also the tuba solo "Walking in Greendale", both of which are now available, arranged for brass, from Wobbleco Music. The theme tune was originally sung by Ken Barrie and was released as a single in the UK where it reached number 44 in the charts in July 1982. The Postman Pat TV series and the later Postman Pat SDS TV series continue to delight and entertain children not least because of the instantly recognizable theme tune. What is less well known is that Bryan was also one of the most sought-after session-musician guitar players of the 1960's and 1970's, a first-call studio musician for the likes of Burt Bacharach, and his performances grace numerous classic hit recordings that have remained radio staples to this day. This "twin-pack" contains 2 arrangements: one of which follows faithfully the original theme and is generally A4 in size, and another which is a march/fete edition and is slightly easier to play. They are printed back-to-back and by folding the parts in half, the march/fete edition becomes lyre-ready.

March - Amsterdam Congress (Charles Skinner)This march was written for the Dutch Annual Bandsman's Congress, and is based on the theme well known on the continent as well as in this country, God is love. Published in 1951, it is melodic throughout and easy to play. 18. Meditation - Thine Alone (Charles Skinner)The expressive tune Misericordia is used for this meditation first published in 1959. It represents the sentiments of four verses of Frances Ridley Havergal's classic hymn, as follows, Just as I am, without one plea; Just as I am, and waiting not; Just as I am, though tossed about, and the final verse of surrender: Just as I am, thy love unknownHas broken every barrier down, Now to be thine, yea, thine alone,O Lamb of God, I come! 19. Love Divine - Ave Verum (arr. Albert Jakeway)A band arrangement of Mozart's beautiful Ave Verum set to the well-known verses, Love divine, all loves excelling. The words of the first verse are:Hold thou my hand! so weak am I and helpless,I dare not take one step without thy aid;Hold thou my hand! for then, O loving Saviour,No dread of ill shall make my soul afraid.
