This attractive Bossa Nova-style arrangement for vocal or flugel/cornet soloist with brass band has been made by Australian composer Sam Creamer. The key is suitable for male or female vocalists, or in the absence of a vocal soloist a part has been supplied for flugel horn or cornet soloist. A piano accompaniment that matches this band arrangement is also available here and may be used as an alternate accompaniment in the absence of a full band, or can be used simultaneously by a rhythm section alongside the brass band. DURATION: 4'00". DIFFICULTY: 4th+. Composed for Strata Brass in 2020 as part of their COVID-19 induced, virtually recorded 'A Christmas Carol' (a new suite for brass band lasting around 30 minutes in total), 'A Charles Dickens Christmas' was used as the opening number for the event. The work utilises a number of instantly recognisable fragments of much-loved Christmas carols but acts more as a quasi-premonition into the original Charles Dickens novel which follows. Each section is marked with the point in the story which the music refers to and ends in a celebratory manner. .

£45.00Three Christmas Portraits (Brass Band - Score and Parts) - Doe, Philip
A delightful set of three Christmas carols expertly adapted by Philip Doe. This suite of three pieces opens with Christmas Day, a dainty and light opening that shows the more delicate aspects of brass playing. The centre piece is a new version of The Coventry Carol, which open with a first verse rendition for quartet before developing a more baroque-style treatment that sits over an ostinato bass line. The movement reaches its climax with flourishes from the cornets leading to a rendition of the carol at fortissimo, and treated with slightly altered, harmonies before coming to rest with the opening quartet delivering the tierce de Picardie. The final movement is I Saw Three Ships, with handy interjections from several other carols, making a rousing climax to a enjoyable set of three Christmas portraits. Duration: 7.00

This light-hearted soprano cornet feature offers a fresh and entertaining take on the well-known Christmas carol We Wish You a Merry Christmas. Thought to date back to 16th-century England, the carol reflects a tradition of festive singing outside the homes of the well-to-do - often accompanied by requests for treats such as figgy pudding, a forerunner of today's Christmas pudding. Kenneth Downie's arrangement embraces the jovial spirit of the original, pairing nimble soprano cornet writing with bright, colourful scoring for brass band. The famous refrain, 'And we won't go until we've got some', sets the tone: cheerful, a touch cheeky, and full of seasonal good humour.
