However this was first published in 1813 and has been adapted and arranged by many composers and arrangers over the years. DescriptionMonteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine (Vespers for the Blessed Virgin) is a musical setting by Claudio Monteverdi of the evening vespers on Marian feasts, scored for soloists, choirs, and orchestra. It is an ambitious work in scope, style and scoring, and has a duration of around 90 minutes. Published in Venice with a dedication to Pope Paul V dated 1 September 1610 as Sanctissimae Virgini Missa senis vocibus ac Vesperae pluribus decantandae, cum nonnullis sacris concentibus, ad Sacella sive Principum Cubicula accommodata ("Mass for the Most Holy Virgin for six voices, and Vespers for several voices with some sacred songs, suitable for chapels and ducal chambers"), it is mercifully regularly shortened to Monteverdi's Vespers of 1610.Monteverdi was born and spent the first part of his working life in Cremona before moving to Mantua (where he composed the Vespers) and finally attaining one of the top jobs in Italian renaissance music as Maestro di Capella at the Basilica di San Marco in Venice. He is most famous for his vocal music, notably his madrigals and the earliest surviving opera, Orfeo.Watch a preview video of the brass band score below:

The Wombles Song - Mike Batt - Len Jenkins
The Wombles are fictional pointy-nosed, furry creatures that live in burrows, where they aim to help the environment by collecting and recycling rubbish in creative ways. They were created by author Elisabeth Beresford, and originally appeared in a series of children's novels from 1968 that featured the inhabitants of a burrow on Wimbledon Common in London, England.The characters gained a higher national profile in the UK in the mid-1970s as a result of a BBC commissioned children's television show, and a number of spin-off novelty songs also became hits in the British music charts. The Wombles pop group was the idea of British singer and composer Mike Batt who wrote the series' theme tune, and who went on to perform and produce a number of successful albums and singles with 'The Wombles'.This is a brass band arrangement of that well-known theme tune. Caution! This may provoke a sing-along.

DIFFICULTY: 1st+. DURATION: 5'00". 'To a New World' was composed for the Foden's Band's winning performance at the 2023 Brass in Concert Championships, held at The Glasshouse, Gateshead where the band performed a set of music inspired by the Disney classic, 'Aladdin'. This was the finale to the band's programme, beginning in the frozen wastelands where Jafar has banished Aladdin and Abu, before they are rescued by the Magic carpet and escape back to Agrabah, battle Jafar once more, defeating him and taking Jasmine's hand in marriage. The music itself uses a number of quotes from songs within the original soundtrack, notably 'Prince Ali', 'One Jump Ahead' and 'A Whole New World'.

Reflections of Tyne was commissioned by the NASUWT Riverside Band for their 2019 performance at Brass in Concert at The Sage in Gateshead.Reflections of Tyne combines two traditional songs from the North East of England into a rumbustious concert or contest finisher full of flair and excitement.The Waters of Tyne and The Cliffs of Old Tynemouth blend in the opening reflection of the stillness of the River Tyne before the industrial heritage of North East England is forces its way on to the landscape as the pace and intensity doubles almost instantaneously. A calmer, contemplative, solo passage precedes the final energetic climax in a vibrant musical rendition of the North East as we know it today, with the Tyne as important now as it ever has been.

Kiwi Dragon - Matthew Hall
'Kiwi Dragon' was commissioned by Byron 'Buzz' Newton for his Master's final performance recital at The Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama in 2012, a recital in which he was awarded an unprecedented 100%. Buzz travelled to Cardiff, Wales for his Master's degree course and became a member of Tredegar Town Band during his studies. 'Kiwi Dragon's' inception came from an initial conversation with the soloist where the thought of combining traditional Welsh folk music with that of Buzz's native New Zealand folk songs to create a virtuosic finishing piece for the recital was conceived. Originally scored for solo euphonium, 10-piece brass and percussion, 'Kiwi Dragon' includes the traditional New Zealand folk melodies Pokare Ana and Tarakihi and the Welsh folk melody Myfanwy, combined with the national anthems of both New Zealand and Wales in the pieces' culmination.
